Tinman0034 0 Posted July 1, 2021 Hey folks, I'm now 10 days post op and was wondering if walking a mile a day is still too much to try at this stage. I'm feeling up to it, but don't want to push it.
Officially Not Fatty Matty 462 Posted July 1, 2021 You should be fine just have a way to bail and get back home should you feel too tired / sore to continue.. I think I did a mile with all the laps I did in the hospital the day after :) 1 Tinman0034 reacted to this
BigSue 1,394 Posted July 1, 2021 Did your surgeon give you any guidance on this? Most surgeons encourage plenty of walking and a mile should be fine if you're up to it.
Bulabula 58 Posted July 1, 2021 I’m10 days post op DS and walked two miles yesterday. It felt great! As long as you’re not straining or need a change ofclothes to exercise, walking is usually encouraged. But check with your drs. 1 Tinman0034 reacted to this

Creekimp13 5,840 Posted July 1, 2021 I literally walked over a mile in the halls of the hospital within 6 hours of my surgery. I was wearing my fitbit and this is an accurate number. Nurses were totally ok with it. They told me to take it slow and rest when I needed to...and I did. My bestie came to the hospital and walked with me and we talked, time got away from us as it always does...and before I realized it, I realized I'd walked a mile. I had an exceptionally easy time after surgery compared to most people. Very little pain. Zero nausea. Woke up ready to sip sip sip and go for a walk. Creekimp13 5,840 Posted July 1, 2021 I think it should be noted that a mile could be a lot different for someone who is 250 pounds overweight vs someone 80 pounds overweight. Age, comorbidities, fitness before surgery would all figure in. Best person to ask is your doc:) Best wishes! 1 Arabesque reacted to this
SunnyinSC 137 Posted July 1, 2021 I've been encouraged by doctors and all to walk as much as I want, provided I am not exhausting myself and straining my body. They also wanted to make sure that I kept on top of my Water intake if I was walking a lot so as not to dehydrate myself. I didn't have anything to count my steps, but like many others here, I would bet I walked over a mile the day of and day after surgery while in the hospital (maybe not all in one go though). Lots of laps trying to get those gas bubbles out.
