If I am able to drink a lot of gulps of liquid without problem, will I be less likely to succeed

Recommended Posts

Hello

I am 7 days out from a sleeve and feeling well overall. I am able to drink multiple gulps of broth, Water and non Protein liquid without difficulty at all. I feel a mild sense of fullness after, but that’s it.

I think I have no problem meeting my liquid quota, just a little short on the protein.

I am worried that this ability to drink a lot of liquid at one time means my sleeve is not small enough or that they didn’t take enough and that I won’t be as successful in my journey. Other thoughts include, “does this ability to drinking so much liquid without difficulties mean my sleeve will stretch?”

I am neither hungry nor thirsty. However, there is a deep dry mouth and dry esophagus (I think) feeling that is compelling me to drink/gulp a lot of fluids at once.

Seems silly to ask this. However, I have been a little worried and I am wondering if there is anyone in my boat or anyone that had no problem drinking in the early phase that was successful overall?

Thanks for reading 🙏🏽

I didn’t have a problem either. I’ve never gotten anything stuck either. I’m down almost 90lbs at 6 months. It’s fine. You’re just luckier than most. I questioned my surgeon too. They assured me all is well and I wouldn’t stretch my stomach out with liquid! Hope this helps ease your mind.

I’m another one of the lucky ones that never really had any issues with liquids and restriction. I’m only 13 weeks out and down 57lbs, but can gulp Water almost like I did before surgery. I still have food restrictions and limitations, though. Once I started semi solid foods, it became very apparent that liquids and foods are definitely not the same beast.

I was always able to drink faster than I thought I should be. Liquids pretty much go right through you, so. As the above poster said, you'll start the feel the restriction once you move to solid foods.

Thanks so much for all that took the time to write. I am grateful. This put my mind at ease. I prayed for ease after the procedure. I am excited to continue on this journey and see changes.

I had problems drinking lots in the beginning, but sometime around the 2-3 week post -op point I was suddenly able to chug Water again, thank goodness..i love me some water.

This ability had no impact on my weight loss as far as i can tell (lost all i wanted to by 7 months post-op, and then a little bit more in the months afterwards). Solids, however did not go down as quickly…still doesn’t really, to this day at 2.5+ years.

Once you get to solids you will likely feel it.
