Feeling ill since getting surgery in Feb 2021

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

I want to warn people that this might be TMI and if you are uncomfortable with details and personal health, you may want to back out.

So yeah, ever since I had my sleeve performed in February, I have had watery to loose stools and I always feel bloated or like I need to run to the bathroom soon. I get the 64 minimum Water intake and my meals are almost completely Protein. I physically am not to the point yet where I can have non-starchy veggies. I just dont have the ability to eat then PLUS the protein. My surgeon says everything looks good with my recovery during the past 3 post op visits. Has anyone else had these experience?

Needless to say, this isn't something I expected when deciding to get surgery. It's not too big a deal, but it does make me uncomfortable and the sensations are distracting and inconvenient. So much so that my work performance is suffering from it.

a couple of ideas - some people become lactose intolerant after surgery (sometimes it's temporary, sometimes it's not...). Also, certain artificial sweeteners can also have that effect on some people - esp sugar alcohols (those with names that end in -itol (xylitol, maltitol, etc)). So could it be something like that? You may have to experiment with giving something up for a few days to see if it makes a difference.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
