Post Op Phase 3 BBQ 😩

Recommended Posts

Hi all! I am new to this forum and looking for some support. I’m having my sleeve surgery on July 26. I am hosting a bbq pool party for family (first time we’re seeing each other post COVID) but I will still be in phase 3. What are some good food choices that don’t scream “I just had bariatric surgery”? I was thinking deviled eggs with light mayo would work…. Any other thoughts? Thanks!

phase 3 for me means Soft meals.

As the host, are you supposed to provide the main dish(es)? Or are you just providing a place to gather?

Turkey chili

soft fruit salad (peaches, pears apricots, bananas, seedless melons)

Canned chicken salad (provide rolls for sandwiches)

baked or poached white fish, shrimp, meatballs

cooked vegetables

Sausages & meat patties. Easy bbq meats that are soft & you don’t need to eat them with bread rolls. I still have trouble with char grilled meats & vegetables even at 25 months out because of the dryness of the char so tread carefully. Grilled prawns should be ok or fish in foil cooked over flames. Just keep to soft, moist foods & you’ll be fine.

Enjoy your time with your family.

I highly recommend ground or minced meat shaped around skewers and grilled. They are traditionally called Adana kebab or koftas.

These are usually super soft Protein options and BBQ friendly since they are normally grilled anyway. Have fun with your family and congratulations in advance.

A couple of recipes in the links below;

Was gonna say much that was mentioned above, skewers with various meats and veggies, (sugar free) BBQ chicken, Italian Sausages & Peppers, Kielbasa, burgers and hot dogs should be fine too. Aldi has some great Keto bun options if you want to have Buns for others and yourself. There is Pasta made of lentils, chickpeas etc. that you could use to make a macaroni salad. fruit tray. Veggie tray. Lots of options.

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
