evansshaun2 1 Posted June 24, 2021 Hello I was seeing if anyone had any ideas for a purée food or soft food diet? I’m 2 weeks removed from surgery and am looking for ideas. Also would grilled pulled chicken be ok to eat vs purée meat? Thank you 1 Candace76 reacted to this
SummerTimeGirl 582 Posted June 24, 2021 I ate chili, fat free refried Beans with a tablespoon of light sour cream/shredded cheddar/guacamole mixed in, mashed potatoes, different Soups blended down, the ricotta bake, cottage cheese, scrambled eggs, etc.(my puree stage only lasted a week so I quickly moved on to soft foods) On soft foods I could eat all of that plus, chicken, ground turkey, lunchmeat, eggs, tuna, salmon, any flaky/soft fish, green beans, fruit cups (no sugar added), steamed carrots, well cooked veggies, cream soups, cooked oatmeal, applesauce, etc. 1 Candace76 reacted to this

Arabesque 7,414 Posted June 25, 2021 Puréed foods should be puréed & sloppy so they are easy to swallow & digest (less strain on your healing tummy). Think baby food (I actually bought a couple of soft packs of baby food). I used stock & diluted gravy to purée minced meats. I ate lots of Soup & milky scrambled eggs too. Puréed salmon & tuna, cottage & ricotta cheese was disgusting. It was only two weeks so it didn’t matter I had a few option I could eat. Pulled meats should be ok in the soft stage but make sure they’re still pretty moist. (Some people struggle with chicken breast cause it’s natural dry - try thigh meat instead.) Also would grilled pulled chicken be ok to eat vs purée meat? Thank youI have been on Purees going on my 7th week now and I am eating mostly Soups. I feel like it gives me the most variety. I also have tried the ricotta bake, seemingly carrots then running them through the food processor you can season them however you want. I recently bought some "black beam burgers" by Gardein and threw them in the food processor with some avocado oil and veg broth for moisture and they were pretty good, and different. WishMeSmaller 1,274 Posted June 25, 2021 chicken can be pretty hard for a lot of us early on. Agree with @Arabesque about purée with liquid or some sort of moisture for best results. Take it really slow, too. When things don’t sit well, it can be a very miserable experience and you can hurt yourself this early out. Good luck! 😊
GummyBearQueen 115 Posted June 25, 2021 I have zero problems with chicken (even white meat) so my advice is to take a small bite or three and see how things work for you.
SummerTimeGirl 582 Posted June 25, 2021 I first tried chicken in pureed stage and ate it all through soft food with no issue. Thank goodness because chicken (boneless, skinless) breasts and fish, shrimp, etc are really my main source of meat/protein that I eat. I don't care for beef, pork, etc. I remember when I had dietician "homework" when I was preparing for surgery and one of the questions was "What is one worry you think you'll have about your diet after surgery?" I put down I worry I won't be able to eat chicken (based on what I've read here). And I told her I worried about it because chicken is what I eat the most. She laughed about it and said most people don't have issues with it once they try cooking it in other ways that keep it moist. 1 Arabesque reacted to this
