When did the surgeon submit to the insurance company?

Recommended Posts

I am wondering at what point is your paperwork submitted to the insurance company? I have already completed all of the items on my checklist for preparation but my surgeon's office hasn't submitted to my insurance company. I must mention that I haven't gotton my results back for my sleep study yet. I'm thinking that the results shouldn't have anything to do with my approval just what I need for the surgery. Right?

well, they have to wait for your sleep study results to come back to submit that to insurance too. they won't submit it until EVERYTHING is in their hands to send. Otherwise, the insurance will likely deny due to not all the evidence submitted. good luck.

Well, my insurance approval process was a bit easier than most. First, I have United Healthcare in Texas, and their supposed to be one of the easiest insurance companies to get approval from. I went in for my consult and pre-op (if we knew we wanted surgery) on Saturday 11/3/07 ... the doctor's office sent the letter out on that following Monday. I got the approval letter on 11/15/07 ... but because I was out of town for Thanksgiving, I didn't know until the doctor's office called the Monday after Thanksgiving.

I just got banded on 12/7/07 ... so the whole process took about a month for me. Everyone has different experiences, but I would just like you to know that things to work out on the easier side of things sometimes :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
