Surgery tomorrow

Recommended Posts

After a long process my surgery is tomorrow. I am terrified and now I’m thinking I’m doing this for all the wrong reasons.

Last minute nerves?

What are your reasons for surgery? Mine were two fold. I told myself in the beginning it was for health reasons, but truth be told tooking good (vanity) was definitely a reason too. Even if it was only about looking good, I think that's a valid too, how we feel about ourselves is a big part of mental health.

Basically the same. It is frustrating because most of my life my weight was under control. The past 10 years is when things changed. Overall I eat well but my weight still climbs so I finally tried medical weight loss. Did not lose any weight which is why my doctor suggested surgery.
I still feel that it is a failing on my part and that I should be able to get this under control.

also afraid I will go through this and not lose weight or gain it all back like I have read about others

10 years is a long time to try to lose weight, give it your best, and be unsuccessful. I remember my surgeon saying in the orientation that weight loss surgery is the best chance many people have for success, long-term. You will be getting an amazing tool that will complement what you are already doing.

I can’t speak to gaining the weight back, since I am only a few months out. But so far, the weight has been coming off easier than ever in my life.

I feel where you are coming from, about feeling that not losing weight so far has been a personal failure. For years, I have felt that I am smart, accomplished, and yet I can’t figure out how to lose weight! At some point, some of us need some extra help, and this is it!

I hope your surgery goes well! 😀

if you follow the rules, you won't gain all the weight back. That happens when people let their old habits back in.

Good luck! I just had mine June 8 and I already feel great and so will you! Your feelings are completely normal! You got this! It’s better that you save your own life now rather then fight for it later was my motivator!

This is exactly me! I always had to battle with my weight but was fairly successful until about 8 years ago. I had my sleeve on June 3rd and hope that this will be the solution for me to keep it to a healthy range for many years to come. The surgery isn't easy, but I'm less than two weeks out and am feeling great. The first 3 days were the hardest for me, mostly because of the gas pain. Hang in there!!

Thank you for encouragement

Made it through the surgery. Trying to drink but it’s not pleasant but it’s progress

You got this. Little sips! Lots of them. Lol. Do what they tell you and, enjoy this exciting time in your life.

Wrong reasons? Are you plotting world domination and/or unfriendly rudeness to small puppies, kittens, or other small critters, etc.?

If your reasons are for 'assistance' with your personal health then you are likely on the right track. If you are seeking a "cure", "quick-fix", or any other "set-it-and-forget-it" type of solution, then you may not get the results you are looking for. (my opinion) As many say, surgery is a "tool". After being at this game of life for 40+ years, and going up, down (and sometimes side-to-side), I found short term successes and many things I just couldn't maintain. After trial and error, and error, and... (you get it), I learned simply: "if I really wanted to change my Life, I had to change my Life". Even with changing my lifestyle, I realized could really benefit from an added "tool" to help me maintain my progress and help keep me on track. I've been at this too long to revert and this "tool" would really help give me an added platform to back me up (even 'when' I slip.. and we do still slip from time-to-time). It won't work on it's own though. You have to be willing to put in the work.

If you've made it this far in the process, then you are seemingly ready for the commitment to improve your health. It is not a cop-out, short-cut, or easy fix. I hope this helps a bit - or at least encourage some reflection.

Best of luck!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
