Favorite Protein Sources?

Recommended Posts

Everyone talks about the Protein powders and supplements they take but I was thinking it'd be interesting to have a thread where we all share our favorites and give a little testimonial as to why they are our favorites.

It might be helpful for those just starting out the process as well as those at varying stages.

Right now my favorite is the EAS Carb Control chocolate Fudge Protein Drink. I buy them in packs of 4 at Walmart for about $5. The are low in carbs, low in sugar and have 17gm of protein per shake. I find that they make the perfect Breakfast drink for me. If I'm still hungry I have been occasionally adding a Pure Protein snack bar with 20 gm of protein in it. Also found at Walmart for about $1.17 each.

I am pre-band so this will change when I get to the liquid stage.

I use unjury unflavored & choc in the liquid stage - I get my protein now by real food - 1 oz of meat has 7 oz of protein... I only do shakes after a fill as my doc requires full liquid for the 1st week after a fill.

I prefer the low-carb SlimFast shakes, which have two net carbs (4 total) and 20 grams of Protein per shake.

I also like using the unjury unflavored Protein added to pudding, oatmeal, mashed potatoes, gravy, etc. I'll be starting the soft foods stage Thursday so I imagine I'll be using the Unjury even more when I rely a little less on shakes.< /p>

1. For Protein shakes: Dymatize Elite Protein in Mocha Cafe. Mix with 8 oz skim milk and blend with handful of ice and you have190 calories and 34 mgs of protein.

2. For Protein Drink: Isopure Clear Protein Drink (about 6 flavors...all good). Pour over ice. 1 bottle is 160 calories and 40 mg protein. I keep a huge supply in my house.

food! I dont take any Protein "supplement" in the form of shakes or bars etc.

These days I'm really loving vegetarian sources like chickpeas and lentils, but I do eat red meat. I love lamb, we eat lamb in some form twice a week or so.

I struggle with fish, I only eat it because I know its good for me.

I'm also for the Slim-Fast low carb shakes. Excellent source of Protein (20g!), so it's perfect. I prefer pre-made to the powders because I'm lazy that way. I like to just pop open a can and there's my meal. LOL

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair. Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end. That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
