Foods for the Pureed/Soft Stages?

Recommended Posts

I'm pescatarian, but my diet is mostly vegan. I hate soft cheeses like ricotta, and generally, things like soft cheeses, mayo, etc. I see a lot of this type of thing suggested for the pureed/soft stages. I'm wondering what are good vegetarian/vegan options during this time?

I am preop and have been vegan for a few years. I am planning on tofu scramble, refried Beans, split pea Soup, blended Soups, blended lentils, chia pudding, soft tofu dishes and maybe cashew & cauliflower ricotta if I can tolerate it.

Try veggies/fruit that can be mashed (carrots, cauliflower, squash, bananas, apples, etc.). You could try mixing Protein Powder into applesauce, grits, oatmeal, or cream of wheat. There's vegan yogurt. What do you like to eat now?

I am on the preop diet now and I really like pea Protein isolate blended into broth when I am tired of shakes. I like the vitacost brand.

Agree with the suggestions above with the addition of maybe some vegetarian chili? I know I had chili with meat and Beans several times now (we were allowed it in puree and now in soft foods). Vegetarian lentil Soup (I ate this blended down in the liquid stage). LOVED the refried beans in these stages too.

I'm currently in pureed stage and refried Beans are great so far. Chili is also on my list, so I second what SummerTimeGirl mentioned about finding a vegetarian/vegan chili. My hospital also recommended blending up some Soups for pureed stage (adding in some Protein powder if needed). At the hospital I had some pureed green beans and they were super yummy. The texture didn't bother me as much as I thought it was going to, so maybe cook and season some veggies you like and then puree into a mash potato sort of consistency?

I also did a ricotta bake. It has ricotta, parmesan cheese, basil, salt, and pepper in it. Then a bit of marinara/pizza sauce over the top. I don't usually like ricotta cheese on it's own, but the bake tastes more like lasagna to me. Really nummy option -if- you like lasagna but maybe don't like ricotta solo. Just throwing it out there as I'm not sure if it was just ricotta that you hated, or if ricotta in things was also a no-go.

I as well have been doin the Ricotta bakes and refried bean. I also did a sauté with frozen then purred tofu and SF BBQ Sauce. Nothing very exciting yet

Newbie here. Got my surgery done today. Been doing some reading and talking to my mother who is 12 years post op and kept all the weight off. She suggested chicken spread (like potted meat) mixed and smashed up with an avacado. Sounds good to me. Kind of excited about trying it.

Did you eat the hummus straight or dip something in it?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
