It will depend upon what damage if any you may have to your knees. But certainly reducing the amount of weight you’re carrying will take pressure off them. The balls of my feet used to ache & burn & occasionally my feet would cramp even in flat shoes but now I can dance for hours in heels pain free.

What Arabesque said...I’ve had knee replacement surgery before WLS on one knee. Unfortunately, both knees are still trashed That being said, I have severe arthritis in the knees and 13 surgeries on them over the years for various injuries. So...short version..it depends.

If knees hurt from the weight. Will the pain go away after weight loss

Sent from my LM-X220PM using BariatricPal mobile app

Knee pain causing mobility issues is one of the major reasons I started researching WLS and getting serious about it's possibility. I'm still pre-op, but I can only imagine how much easier it will be carrying less weight. I'm sure if you have other medical issues that weight loss won't be the ultimate cure, but the way I look at it is this: does my knee hurt even more when I'm carrying heavy groceries? Yes. So, if I weighed less, my leg may hurt less.

Best of luck!

I have moderately severe arthritis in both my knees and was in pain all day, every day before surgery. I’m down 50lbs in 11 weeks and it has made a huge difference in my knee pain and arthritis. I noticed today that I I was able to squat down to pick something up off the floor, which would normally be completely out of the question prior. I can’t imagine how much better I’ll feel once I get to closer to my goal weight! So yes, it makes a difference!

Pre-surgery I was having knee pain in one leg, ankle pain in the other. Shin pain in both. After surgery - the pain was gone. It was only in the last 10 lbs that I gained that I started having leg issues. So, dropping that so quick was the contributing factor.

My mom is overweight and needs double knee replacement- I did not want to get to this point in my life. So I made the change. (I have tried to convince her that her weight is contributing to her issues, but she won’t make a change to her eating)

Mine have started hurting less and I have only lost 40 pounds. I did, however start surgery process right when knees started hurting so I don’t think I did any permanent damage.

My personal experience: the knee, feet, ankle, mid and upper back pains all went away by month 2 post-op (50 lbs lighter at that point)

However, these were temporarily replaced with lower back and hip pain, which i believe were due to my body/musculature/bones adjusting from having to carry the extra weight to not having to anymore so quickly….then, if I remember correctly, probably 2-3 months after they showed up, these pains went away as well.

Now all I have is neck and right shoulder pain…but thats probably due to playing with my phone too much in bed, lol

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
