I'm 4 weeks post op. I feel like I'm failing. I'm having a hard time getting my Water and Protein in. When I eat it's a few times throughout the day and I haven't logged anything or measured it out like I should. I've been really struggling with the psychological aspect of it and I feel like I'm trying to work through that each day. I'm getting better and starting to do what I'm supposed to, but have I ruined anything yet? Im just scared I screwed up so early on and I'm doomed. I have no energy and feel like crap all the time. I'm over dramatic lol but I'm freaking out y'all. Help!

Honestly, I'm glad I am not alone. I am 5 weeks post op. I returned to work last week. Since going back, I have struggled with the shakes, Water and the inability to eat any of the things I am supposed to be "Trying". Yesterday, at work, I tried to eat a few bites of grated turkey. I guess i ate it too fast. After 3 bites, I feel like it got stuck. It was horrible for about 3 hours. I think we just need to go back to the basics. 1) drink the water first, the 2) get in the Protein via shakes and 3) if there is any time left...some of the other things we are supposed to ne eating.

I am struggling so hard after going back to work. We just need to stay positive and remember why we did this.

For the record, I feel exhausted and crappy all of the time too. 500-600 calories a day will do that. Cheer up , you are not alone

Relax. You're fine. You're in a marathon not a spring and no one does it perfectly. Feeling like crap the first month is normal. I had no energy and was in a brain fog.

Think about what the most important thing is that you're missing and focus on just that goal. Do you need more Protein? Are you dehydrated? Take it one step at a time.

Also unless you are doing something incredibly stupid like forcing yourself to eat a whole pizza you cannot ruin anything in 4 weeks.

Find a tracking app and get started. Many people use My Fitness Pal. I use Lose It. It's a bit cumbersome at first but once you get into the habit of logging and get some foods entered, it's not that bad.

If you're not measuring and logging it's hard to know what you're really taking in and what you may be lacking.

As LaoDaBeirut said, you haven't ruined anything. Now is the time to establish health routines. Focus on what you can do and not on what you are not doing.

I was going to suggest the same thing. I use Baritastic but I think they are all very similar. It’s super easy to track your Water and Protein this way. You may be on better track than you think.

If food logging feels too hard, try keeping a visual food log (take photos) that show types, sizes and quantities of things you eat & drink. This maybe better than nothing especially if you need to consult your nutritionist. Good luck everyone ❤️

No worries. Like a previous poster wrote, focus on one goal at a time. If you are only getting in 4 or 5 cups of Water a day, it is probably OK for a few weeks if you don’t have any signs of dehydration. At least this is what my surgeon told me. I had to focus on Protein first, and didn’t come close to my protein goal till about 5 weeks. Now I meet that, but not fluids yet. It’s becoming easier to drink, though (I increase goal by one cup per week), so hopefully you will soon have an easier time!

Also, I don’t measure after a couple times (I eye it), and I don’t track calories. I only track fluids and protein in a notebook until my routine becomes second nature. I knew from the beginning that tracking calories makes me obsessive from previous diets…I don’t want to do that forever. I try to stick to healthy foods, and perceive being comfortable (not necessarily full) then stop. So far at two months, I am down 32 pounds so it seems to be working.

Hang in there, you haven’t ruined anything! Your tool is still intact! The very fact you are on this board speaks to that! 😀

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
