smarks 51 Posted June 9, 2021 I was told no shakes with sucralose. The Bariatric Pal Store offers pre op diet shakes with sucralose? I wander why sucralose is not advised. Also, anyone purchase bariatric pal shakes? Thoughts?
catwoman7 11,221 Posted June 9, 2021 not sure. I wasn't told that. Do you have a medical condition, maybe, that it might affect? Otherwise...?? There are probably no artificial sweeteners that are completely safe (well, neither is sugar, really) - but I don't know anything specific about sucralose. GummyBearQueen 115 Posted June 9, 2021 I wasn’t told that either. Very interesting the differing advice across doctors and nutritionists.
Arabesque 7,443 Posted June 9, 2021 I wasn’t told this either but I just did a quick google search & discovered this site https://draxe.com/nutrition/sucralose/. Don’t know how reputable the site is but it does say sucralose can cause gastrointestinal problems: affects digestive enzymes, can contribute to irritable bowel, increase insulin levels, cause bloating, gas, … Who knows whether it will affect you in this way. But it maybe why you’ve been advised to avoid it. Best to ask your medical team why to be certain.
lekcir 19 Posted June 9, 2021 I was told not to do the already made shakes I was told to use Syntrax Nectar whey protien isolate 2 scoops in a 12oz fat free fairlife milk. Thats 60g of protien there. I also use diesel whey protien isolate they both have different flavors. I like the diesel better and the sweets of the nectar. lizonaplane 1,613 Posted June 9, 2021 (edited) Was it your surgery center or someone else who said no shakes with sucralose? And did they recommend a different sweetener? And did they tell you why sucralose was bad? Sucralose is just Splenda. We were just told it has to be less than 10g of sugar. I just checked the NINE different brands of Protein powders and shakes I have and only one has no sucralose (Isopure - sweetened only with stevia). BriarRose 437 Posted June 12, 2021 Anything with sucralose gives me days and days of horrible runs with cramping and it is NOT fun. For me, I cannot (pre or post op) tolerate any of the "fake sugar" at all - every darn one of them makes me sick - literally. I was not able to drink any of the shakes. It was not fun. I do not consume any of it ever. A few years back, I ate ONE "chocolate candy" sample at costco. Turned out it had sucralose. I was sick for days. And it doesn't take long to go through you when it starts. That is enough said !
