After surgery diet?

Recommended Posts

After the surgery and once I can start to eat solid foods, can I go on a no carb diet or do I HAVE to stick to the exact diet the doctor gives me?

My doctor never really gave me a specific "diet" to go on. He does have all his patients meet with a nutritionist to discuss healthier eating habits, etc. So, that is what I do. I don't count calories or anything, I just try to make sure I eat a healthy combination of Proteins, fruits and vegetables in healty size portions.

If your doctor has recommended a specific diet plan for you, and you are not sure it is one you want to follow, then perhaps you can discuss other options with him or a nutritionist.

I will talk to my doctor. My appointment is on Tuesday, but part of me hesitates to ask him. I do not want him to think that I am not ready for the surgery because I want to do a strict diet so I can lose weight faster. He and the nutritionist have made it clear that lap band is a slower process. I don't know. Is it safe to eat NO carbs with the lap band?

Akis - my doc & nutritionist both state "healthy low fat sugar free eating program" You need to eat Protein 1st then veggies and if any room some carbs. This is a lifetime lifestyle change and not a diet. To lose weight eat healthy and exercise and with the help of the band as a tool to help control your portion size once you get proper restriction which can take awhile - a healthy well balance food program is in order as you have to retrain yourself and your eating habits for life..

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
