Post-op week 1 of Hianal hernia surgery. Day 1 of surgery body had 5 tiny 1/2 incisions just under breasts. Sent home 1 hour after surgery. Took a percocet ahead of pain and never needed another pill . Took Tylenol every 4 hours rest of day but had 0 pain , slept in separate room so I wouldn't disrupt husband and stay comfortable. Day 2 - 0 pain, no meds . Incisions healing already. Only 1 massive bruise from the blood clot shot in stomach.

Days continued on with nothing but success. Facts : 0 heartburn or acid at night in throat, 0 choking to death at every meal. No more protonix medicine for heart burn. Ate regular food after day one even spicy. I suffered 3 years longer than I ever needed too.

Next step is gastric sleeve in 4 weeks. So, stay tuned !!

Thank you for sharing. I am having a large hiatal hernia repaired with gastric bypass and your post was helpful. The recovery period and what to expect has been a mystery to me.

No, I’m still waiting on a surgery date. ☹️ The hernia was suspected by my surgeon and showed up in pre/procedure testing. I had been hoping for tomorrow, 4/11, as my surgery date, but obviously that is not going to happen. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I’m thinking seriously of waiting till June 10th when school is done. I’m slightly apprehensive about piggybacking the hernia recovery with bypass recovery as my original plan was to return to school rather quickly (3-4 days) after both. Right now the ball is in the surgeon’s court and I’m waiting.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
