Recommended Posts

Hello:bounce:

My name is Cindy. I live in erlanger ky.I am 47 years old married 26 years and have one son who is 24. I am scheduled for lap band Feb7th at Jewish Hospital with Dr. Fegelman. I have tried other weight loss products.... Weight Watchers was the most recent. It works for a while then I get cocky thingking I can do it on my own. Not true. I do real good then say oh one day wont hurt if I cheat. Then somehow just fall off the wagon all together and I gain the weight back. I have thought long and hard about the lap band and have decided to do it. I have struggled with my weight all my life. I know this is a life style change and I am ready to make that change.

Hi Cindy.

I am new to the board so welcome to both of us. I totally understand what you are saying about dieting. I am really into it for a few weeks, then I start to cheat a little bit then bam I am back at eating everything in site.

I am in the process of trying to find an insurance company who will cover the lap band. I have Bluegrass Family Health right now and they absolutely don't cover it. I have talked to an Anthem agent who says they don't cover it. I am at a loss and can't afford the $15K it costs to pay out of pocket.

I guess I will keep searching and saving up my money!

Casey

Hi Cindy! Good to meet you! I'm from the Elizabethtown/Hodgenville area. Glad to know you are getting ready to have the band. I just had mine and feel fantastic! :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
