December 2020 surgery

Recommended Posts

Hello, I had my surgery on 12/8/2020. I am 67 years old, 5"6. I was unable to walk due to a broken ankle and surgery to reconstruct it in May 2020. I also have thyroid disease and osteoarthritis in both knees. So having a gastric sleeve was my last resort. I began to gain weight at 40 and became diabetic at 45. My highest weight was 310lbs. My surgery was without complications. But I am not losing weight as I thought I would. There was no support from my surgeon after the sleeve. I was just on my own. So I decided to get counselling for my eating disorder and depression. This is a slow process. I am hoping for the best. I am thankful for this site as I know I am not alone.

I have been stuck here since March. I know I have eating habits that must change. But I love to snack on salty and crunchy . I do not eat sugar, rice, bread, or most carbs. Most days I only eat two meals. I begin with Protein. I do drink a Protein Shake for Breakfast. My diabetes is in remission. I am now walking without support. I go to physical Therapy for my knees and ankle twice a week and also have Water therapy. That is my exercise. I just wish my weight loss would get going. 2021-05-16-01-39-37-575.jpg

I have to eat every three or four hours or I risk unhealthy snacking or gorging at my next meal. Do you know how many calories you typically take in in a day?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
