6 weeks in - what is a normal food day?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone

im 5-6 weeks post op for a sleeve. I am hungry quite a lot and I am so worried about. I’m starting to avoid the scales.

I am worried this is going to work.

I feel I’ve been let out into the world with no idea on what I should or shouldn’t have daily. I just feel lost for the food side of things

whats everyone else eating? Does anyone feel like they are over eating?

thank you

At six weeks, I measured everything. My diet was as follwos:

Breakfast - coffee with 1/3 of a Protein Shake and collagen powder (19 grams of protein).

Mid Morning - hard boiled egg OR Chomps (meat stick with 9 grams of protein) OR Protein shake

lunch - 3 oz protein, could be deli turkey or ham and cheese, or ground beef/chicken with taco seasoning and refried Beans. I would also buy low carb tortillas and make a little wrap or burrito.

dinner - 3 oz protein (chicken breast/thigh, steak or fish) plus small portion of veggies.

I tried not to snack at this stage, but Snacks would be 1 oz of nuts, string cheese or CHOMPS.

And at least 64 oz of Water.

Good luck!

Hi, I'm also starting 5th week and will remain on soft foods for the next 2-3 weeks per Dr.'s orders. So far, I've done well with cream of wheat, egg whites and avocado or Protein Shake with frozen or fresh fruit in the morning. Also Cottage cheese with pineapple.

lunch or dinner: surprisingly, I can eat tiny bites of shrimp cocktail and tiny bites of avocado mixed in. I put lemon juice on shrimp and mix cocktail sauce into the mixture. Very tasty and satisfying. This is my fav meal.

I can also eat refried Beans with a sprinkle of cheese. Very soft chicken (dark meat bbq'd). Soups, and long boiled potatoes and carrots. Mashed potatoes, mashed cauliflower too.

Snacks are sugar free choc pudding, sugar free hard candies, skinned peaches or watermelon.

I've been consistently losing 1-2 pounds every 1-2 days, always exercise every other day and can now swallow multi Vitamin and vitamin supplement of D-3. I can never eat more than 3-4 oz. per meal but can drink up to 6 oz. of Protein shake. Remember not to drink 30 min before meals nor during meals.

I hope this helps you since we seem to be in the same place post surgery!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
