Any surgery buddies?? June 2,2021

Recommended Posts

Hi there any surgery buddies? Having surgery on 6/2. I was super excited to do the classes, get approved right away, and finally get a date since I have been waiting since December. I got my self ready shakes, Protein Water, Vitamins and broth. Took 3 weeks off work to recoup. Now I am super nervous and having anxiety. I read so many good post and some bad. I know I shouldn’t be doing that to myself, but like to know what to expect. How are you all coping and getting yourselves ready for surgery?

nervousness is very common before surgeries - I get freaked out every time before I have one!! I had to make myself quit reading the negative stories before I had my RNY surgery. I knew that major complications like that are rare, but they were still freaking me out. I finally had to make myself stop reading them.

We're almost surgery buddies. I'm scheduled for June 3rd. Just had my final testing at the hospital yesterday (upper GI, EKG, bloodwork) and my pre-registration done.

I've stocked up on the same things. My doctor also gave me some Protein and Vitamin samples. And Miralax...

I can only take a week and 2 days off of work, but since I pretty much just sit at a desk, I hope it will be ok,

I'm super excited and nervous. And having a hard time thinking about anything else at the moment. :)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
