So 5/18/21 was my gastric sleeve surgery. Just 6 years ago I was at my goal weight of 141. In 6 year I reached 267. The biggest I’ve ever been. in the past was 217, (31 years ago after the birth of my second daughter) I do believe I know the reason for so much weight gain in six years. If anyone is interested I’ll share later to compare stories. Anyway the first couple of days weren’t bad. I felt more pain then anything. But for three days now I’ve been hungry but have no intentions of not eating right. For now I’ve learned to stay out of the kitchen and my daughter is giving great support and encouragement. If anyone could share with me about bowel habits and changes, colors, pain in the middle chest, or any other types of changes I’d appreciate it.

Thank you for sharing your story but as my VSG doesn't take place until 31st May I can't offer you any personal insight on bowel habits or pains in the chest. From what I have read, Constipation can be VERY common due to the fact that the consumption of food is drastically reduced. Could the pains in your chest be reflux or even a feeling of fullness that is causing some pain? I'm sure that other more seasoned sleavers will have more ideas for you. I am sorry to hear that you are feeling hungry as this is something I am seriously hoping goes away or largely diminshes, for me.

I would love to know why you think your weight has increased so quickly as this has happened to me too. For me, I feel it is to do with hormones (menopause) as I am 56.

Keep up the positive attitude!

i was the same i gained 6 stone due to steroids for a condition i have but was put on immune suppressants as i could no longer tolerate the steroids. I thought i would of lost my weight after that but i didn’t and i have been pre menopause since age 33 with my condition affecting my pituitary and hypothalamus, so i had RNY bypass in january 2021, iv lost 3 stone so far but slowed down and been at a stall for over 3 weeks now.
i have been getting pain and rang my team and they suggested it could be trapped wind so try something for that, and earlier on after surgery my bowel habits were not regular but once you start gradually eating more proper food it helps. and a few times the colour of mine were really light nearly white but this got better after i was eating proper foods. Hope this helps. 😁

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
