I have only lost 22 lbs, since surgery on 4/13/21 the past 10 days have been no weight loss. Can eat more things now, but wondering if I need to go back to 90 grams of Protein per day- right now I’m at 30-60 and eat a small meal at night. Haven’t had sugar in a long time. Haven’t been drinking much Water either. Any thoughts out there?

Sounds like you need more Protein (at least 60 g per day) and more water/liquid (at least 64 oz per day). If you can, talk to your nutritionist to come up with good parameters that are personalized to suit you. Also, 22 pounds is pretty good weight loss so far, so do not stress too much about that. Focus on nutrition and following your surgeon’s plan/guidelines. Good luck! 😊

1) unless you're the size of someone on "My 600 lb Life", your weight loss so far is very normal. Most of us lose 15-25 lbs in the first month after surgery. Yes - you will find people who lose more or less than that, but they're the exception. You're in that range, so you're perfectly normal!

2) you're in the infamous "three-week stall". Almost all of us go through that. It's not ALWAYS the third week, but it is for most (hence the name) - but it can really happen any time within the first 4-6 weeks after surgery. Just stick to your program and stay off the scale if you need to. It'll last 1-3 weeks, and then you'll be on your way again. If you want to read more about it, do a search on this site for the three week stall. You will find about 17,000 posts on it (and no, I am NOT kidding...). It literally does happen to almost everyone. No changes necessary - just stick to your program and wait it out. It WILL break.

oh - just re-read your post. Thirty grams of Protein is too low. Most surgeons recommend at least 60. So THAT is a change you should make. Otherwise, you're good. Just hang tight!

I stalled frequently if I dropped below 80 grams of Protein. Talk to your dietitian but as hard as it is and as silly as it seems to be....getting in those few extra grams of protein really do matter.

I still stalled, don't freak out about the stalls they are going to happen no matter what you do, your body just has to catch up and that is normal. But stay the plan and keep up the protein and water.....those two ingredients are the secrets to success and a whole lot of patience!

Stalls are very common along the way. They’re just your body playing catch up. They can last 1 to 3 weeks but you will start to lose again.

Yes, definitely increase your Protein intake. I was told 60g too though some are told 70. I still aim to eat 60g at two years out. (Recommended daily intake for an adult is .8g protein per kg of weight in the US. It’s 1g per kg in Australia.)

Thank you for your advice for Cajunincheesetown. It has taught me a thing or two. I certainly didn't know about the daily protein requirements correlating to body weight. I will remember that when I am on the other side which will be next Monday!

This is your first stall, possibly first of many. No worries. I found drinking my Protein helps while also adding to my hydration needs (I like Premier shakes). My struggle still (8 months out) is staying hydrated which is key to weight loss and good health. Keep going!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
