Do You Believe in Signs?

Recommended Posts

I had my initial consult after years of waiting & pondering. My insurance requires the first visit to my Primary doctor whose only "heard" of the band and doesn't know much about bypass or other WLS options, so she referred me to my next step (Go through the Weight Management center for 3 months and only they can refer me for surgery based on their decision, plus I still haven't decided on Band vs. Bypass/Sleeve, etc.) Keeping in mind she's just a general practioner, of all people to chat with in the lobby was a woman in a crisis. We struck up a conversation because her husband is coincidentally in the hospital from complications due to his... you guessed it, Bypass surgery! He was over 400 lbs 4 years ago, dropped down to 170 after Bypass and stayed healthy and active for several years. Then suddenly out of the blue he stopped chewing his food, watching his portions, exercising, etc. She spoke in broken English so I didn't get the exact diagnosis but he's bleeding from the stomach and having surgery again, and she was very upset about the doctor's prognosis. I sat there in disbelief, as if Guardian Angels (or whatever you call them) were trying to tell me something. Do you believe in signs?

Sure do. I've always believed if we listen to our inner self then we get outer messages on what we need to do. Only problem is, I get so caught up with what's going on around me that I sometimes miss the messages. Looks to me like you definitely got yours. Good luck with your decision. :P

YES YES YES! I have always believed in signs, because events just kept lining up for me in my life, depending on what my current interests were. I always found it so bizarre. It was like the stars were aligning or something. My friend and I talk about this regularly, and we're both in that weird "zone" at the moment where things all seem to be happening for a reason to point us to this one spot in our life, like all the energy is being channeled. Okay, I'm stopping RIGHT NOW. I'm starting to sound just a tad bizarre. But, yes, I DO believe in signs.

I definitely believe in signs. I bet he started to gain his weight back. That wouldn't surprise me the least. Good luck with your decision.

Yes I believe.

I found out about the band when I was reading about gastric bypass (I had no idea there were so many different wls options) so I called my dh's insurance co. to see if it was covered - absolutely not - no wls at all! I started praying and found out that the insurance my job offered would pay for it. So I went through the 6 months of monitoring and all the other tests and not only was it covered but it worked out that I was able to have it during my off season (seasonal worker) and to top it off I didnt' have to pay a penny! It was 100% covered. I just really felt that all things worked out for a reason. Today is my one year anniversary and I couldn't be happier or healthier! LOVE IT!!!

I don't believe in signs per se but I do believe that when you have a problem or become curious about a certain area of interest you will inevitably become much more alert to picking up on information which is pertinent to this, information which you likely would have ignored before.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
