I had revision surgery from lap band to sleeve on July 7th. The surgery went way better than I expected it would. After surgery I had no pain, no gas and no nausea. The clear liquid diet after surgery is not bad at all thus far. I look forward to sipping on warm broth. So far I am a happy sleever and look forward to what my new skinny future holds. Good luck to you all.

This it how things are going for me. Sorry if it is long:

I had my Surgery on Wednesday at 10am and everything went well. I did have a hiatal hernia that was repaired during my sleeve.

One in recovery at about 12:30pm I can remember getting up and walking to the restroom twice. I was given some ice chips and some time later was given a cup of Water and a pill to swallow. I was in pain from the gas. It mostly felt like pressure in my right shoulder, my neck and behind my spleen. It was horrible.

I was moved to a room sometime around 5:30pm. I walked from the recovery bed to the bed in my room. I drank a couple of sips of water and fell asleep for about 30 minutes. I was determined to get rid of the gas pain at which by this time was mainly in my right shoulder and neck, so I walked for about 15 minutes. At this time the walking did not help much, I burped 1 time. Since I was on IV and drinking water I had to use the bathroom frequently and because of the pain of getting out of bed I chose to walk every time I had to urinate so I walked for about 10-15 minutes. Eventually I started burping more during my walks.

The night of surgery was pretty much the same, drinking water, urinating walking and burping. I did try some chicken bullion which was delicious and helped me burp from the warmth. I did not sleep much throughout the night.

The morning after surgery I decided to sit in a chair to see if I could sleep but I was still restless. I walked more and burped more throughout the morning. Since I was doing so well with my fluids, urinating and walking the doctor was most likely going to let me go home when he came back to check on me. I wanted to see if I was able to sleep before I was released so I forced myself to sleep and I was able to for about an hour. When I woke I wanted to try the thickest liquid they offered for my full liquid diet which was cream of Tomato Soup. I drank about 2 oz and held it down fine. I was discharged at 3:30pm that day.

When I got home I felt miserable from the 20 minute ride from the hospital to home so I took some med and tried to be as comfortable as I could be the gas pain was unbearable in my shoulder but I pushed through it. I was able to finally fall asleep around 11pm Thursday night.

When I woke up Friday around 5:50am I felt a lot better. I took some Tylenol, sipped on water and walked around in my house for about 1.5 hours (I am really determined to get rid of this gas today). I attempted to walk outside but the mosquitoes were horrible.

Over all the experience has not been to bad the worst part for me has definitely been the gas pain but it is getting better. As a tip drinking warm bullion before and during my walking has really helped getting the gas moving.

Sorry this is so long but I wanted to share my experience.

No need to apologize...it is so helpful to hear everyone's experiences. I am glad that things went well, and the recovery hasn't been difficult so far. Congratulations! Thank you for you detailed experience.

This is fab detail! And exactly what I need too know! I’m sure im not the only one that appreciates the detail.
The gas situation is the only worry for me. So will be taking your tips on the walking and hot stock drinks to help with that.
🙂

It's good to see so many successful surgeries so far in July! It's definitely reassuring.

I'm doing better with the 2 week pre op diet. I was getting dizzy, but I realized I was probably running a little too low on calories. I wasn't making my shakes with milk and my workouts were about 300-400 calories a day, so I added those 3 cups of milk and I feel better.

I ordered a little individual chopper/blender and a mesh strainer. I am not a big fan of the Protein Shake required for purchase (Nectar) at my doctor's office as I just can't get them to mix well, but I found one I like at my gym (Lean Body). I'm getting all stocked up on that.

I have been watching a bunch of My 600-lb Life to mentally prepare lol. It helps me to see some of the mental struggles that they are going through, plus it is a good reminder for me to be able to see other people using excuses and justification because I do that, too. I have a bad habit of talking myself into bad decisions, and it is good to see others overcoming that same problem.

The only thing I am nervous about right now is my surgery getting canceled or him not being able to do the procedure for some reason. I had a band that was removed in emergency surgery about 7 years ago, and although he did an endoscopy and said everything looks fine, I still worry there will be some sort of problem with scar tissue or something. Oh well, no use worrying.

I hope the next 3 days fly by so I can get this over with. Good luck to those of you scheduled for Monday!

Just starting my pre-op diet tomorrow for surgery on the 20th...and I am so unprepared! I bought five different single-serving plant-based Protein Drinks to try that have been sitting in my fridge (because dairy and my sinuses don't get along, though I may try whey shakes if I really can't stand any of the vegan ones), because I hate Protein drinks with a passion. Going to try them soon, see which is the least gross, and go buy more tonight. I really feel like I'm dreading the pre-op and post-op liquid diet more than the actual surgery. Someone talk me down?! 😂

Don’t know if you could handle Premier Protein shakes but I have loved them. They come in so many different flavors including cinnamon roll, peaches and cream, strawberries and cream, chocolate, vanilla, etc. I could have any of them except the ones with oats. My pre-op was 5 of those a day and at least 8 cups of Water. They helped prevent cravings and I never got hungry. My post -op diet has been 8 c of water a day and 4- 2oz servings of the shakes a day. I haven’t had any diet struggles at all. The Premier shakes are sold at Walmart. You can look them up online to see if you think they’d work. Wishing you great luck finding something! Good luck with your pre-op and surgery as well!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
