I was cold all the time for awhile, but I don't notice it anymore (I'm six years out). At some point, it went away. For some people it seems to be a permanent thing, though.. 1 Jennlovesfit reacted to this
Highly_Undermedicated 55 Posted May 12, 2021 Im 14 months post rny. I used to be one that was hot and sweat year round. Now Im freezing. And we live on the Gulf Coast..temps already mid 80s and Im still cold. I just double up blankets. Wear socks to bed. Sometimes I use a heating pad, especially when I have a Migraine or back pain which is nearly everyday. And I was curious to see how Id fair with walking during the heat and Im barely sweating! Its not bothering me one bit. Ive even started running a bit! And I havent run anywhere since I was 15!!!! Im 49 now! 2 Esi and lizonaplane reacted to this
lizonaplane 1,613 Posted May 12, 2021 I haven't had surgery yet, but I have found that whenever I am eating less I am cold. I tend to be cold unless I am moving around. I don't know if this applies to people after surgery, but once you are able, I would try moving around a bit, even just walking and swinging your arms. I will get on my treadmill for about ten minutes when I get cold and that warms me up for a few hours. Again, I don't know if this will work after surgery; I'm hoping it does because I'm already cold all the time!
Soon2bFit21 109 Posted May 12, 2021 This happens to me too! I’ve always thought it was related to the metabolism slow down and low calorie intake. I live in a moderate temp state, but even when it hit the low 80s I didn’t feel the need to turn on the AC like I would in the past.
Esi 179 Posted January 15, 2022 Thanks for this post. Before surgery I was hot getting in my car each morning from putting on my shoes and loading my work bag. Now I am cold much of the time. Is it just from having less “insulation?” Or is there some nutritional deficiency? I am wearing sweaters and coats more than ever before. I hope this is good on the flip side…that I won’t be sweating as much come summer!
GradyCat 3,695 Posted January 15, 2022 Totally common after WLS. Find some sweaters you like to carry with you places you go.
lizonaplane 1,613 Posted January 18, 2022 Having had surgery, I find I am not nearly as cold as I anticipated. I'm actually warmer now than I was prior to surgery, which I can only attribute to the fact that I'm more active. I know that muscle mass is what keeps people warm, more than fat, but I know I have lost muscle mass (I fly a lot and now it's hard to lift my suitcase into the overhead bin) and yet I'm not nearly as cold as I was.
