Weight loss concerns, or lack of weight loss

Recommended Posts

Hello,
I am 5 weeks post op today and still have not lost any weight since my first week post op...I measure all of my food, even the bites I sneak from family members. I walk every day, work in my yard and play with my dogs. Has anyone had this problem and what worked to get things started? I feel very emotional and defeated to the point of feeling I went through all of this for nothing.

thank you, v

You may have had your first stall. There are thousands of post related to this so you are not alone. It is very, very frustrating and confusing especially when you are being diligent.

Some people switch things up like hydration (increase only), physical activity or calories (only increase or decrease with permission from your team) but usually it breaks without any intervention.
Good Luck!

Just be patient. It is impossible to eat as few calories as we eat post surgery and not lost weight. Your body is just adjusting. I have learned from many others on this site that happens to most of us within the first month and is often around week three and called the three week stall for that reason. If you do a search for the term you will see how common it is. Stick to your plan and you will be losing before you know it.

I had surgery almost 4 weeks ago and my weight loss is pretty slow too. Its very discouraging but I just try to remind myself that my weight isnt going to come off overnight. My weight plateaud for a little over week before I finally dropped a pound so I completely understand how you feel

I had 5 weeks of plateau, then I lost 4 lbs, now I seem to be stuck again. I did have to increase my calories to start to lose weight. It seems like 1000 calories it the magic bullet for me and weight loss. I'm definitely less grumpy and tired at 1000 calories, but it took me weeks to realize that 800 wasn't working for my body.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
