Question About SWEETS.

Recommended Posts

I am going to be banded on January 15th and I can't wait!! I am just worried about the 'sweets' thing. I do not eat sweets often, but if I do it's a piece of dark chocolate (70-80 percent cocoa) or some frozen yogurt.

I don't want to sabotage my success b/c of my sweet tooth, but I also don't want to feel denied. I was wondering if any of you guys had the same fear before getting banded, and if so, how has life been post operation?

Thanks!

Congrats on the soon to be banded! I am Newly banded 1 week ago. I cannot believe that this is coming out of my mouth, but for this past week I have not wanted anything sweet i.e. sugar free puddin, popscicles,jello...or anything that is liquid and sweetened with splenda. This may not seem like a big deal, only this comes from someone, who before my surgery I would rather eat anything sweet! I use to have a DP and several candy bars a day, plus other sweets and chips. I would rather eat junk food that healthy food. As I said it's only been 1 week, but I have NO desire for sweets....(It's still strange saying that)

I have a moderate sweet tooth.. I like something sweet every day, but not all day.

I keep 100 calorie cookie packs on hand (Pepperidge Farm is good, and also Shorties Shortbread cookies).

I also think the fruit leather (45c for a pack) is really sweet and it's 100% pureed fruit dried out..

Granola Bites (90 calories) are good.. and have quite a bit in them for a bandster. Cinnamon tastes like french toast, chocolate tastes like coacoa puffs, and the Peanut Butter tastes like coconut to me.

If you can control portions, by just getting packs like these with controlled calories, you can do fine. But if you can't stop at just 1 pack, it might be better not to have the temptation. Depends on what works for you!

Julie, sweets are fine just not in excess. I eat everything, just less of it. My doctor is a big advocate for cheese cake since it is high in protein! Enjoy all foods. It is really important. Good luck with your surgery! Julie

Thanks, guys! This makes me feel a lot better.

Plus, I love cheesecake so that is an interesting thought. I guess it is higher in Protein then other cakes and such.

And I like those 100 calorie packs. So I am glad to hear that you can still eat those.

Happy holidays!!

On my liquid diet I got so tired of sweet stuff cuz the protien shakes were sweet. But now that I eat normal I get the Walmart brand slimfast put 10 ice cubes in and let it go round in my magic bullet for about a minute. Tastes just like a frosty from Wendy's, yum!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
