My surgery is just a little over a week away and I have been very successful in adhering to the liquid diet. I feel great and I am encouraged by how easy it has been. However, the past three nights, I have had increasingly worse restless leg syndrome. I also had it when I was pregnant. I have checked my labs, and my folate levels were slightly lower than "normal", though I have been taking a Multivitamin for some time now. My plan is to get folate, B12, and magnesium supplements, to see if that helps. Has anyone had this issue and did they find any solution? Another aside--I don't sleep as well now. It's like my body just wants to be "awake" more. I used to nap quite easily, and LOVED it. I can't anymore. Thank you for your feedback!

I get restless legs on occasion. I took magnesium when pregnant, however I would caution you now. On this diet, it might lead to shitting your pants. Been there.
I’ve heard an old wives tale about putting a bar of soap under your sheets at night. Never tried it though.

I’ve had bad rls since I was in my teens. I take ropinerole for it with pretty great success. If I forget to take it a couple hours before bed it’s a miserable experience for me (and my wife). I also get the worst rls after any procedure where they use propofol to knock me out. It’s brutal. Apparently it even happens when I’m out, during one procedure (I’ve had countless spinal injections) the team had to hold my legs down because I was flapping my legs around like a frog :) but anyway, ropinerol works great with mild side effects for me… frequent yawn, runny nose..

Medication is a lifesaver. I have severe rls and take a combination of ropinerole and gabapentin. If I miss my medication, the combination of my brain trying to sleep and my legs unable to stay still is excruciating. I do have concerns that enough of the medicine won’t absorb after surgery and if I have to choose, relief from the rls will have to win over living with obesity. Perhaps this wouldn’t be the case with occasional or minor flare ups. I’ve made an appointment to see a pulmonary/sleep study specialist (they seem to be the rls experts) before surgery to get advice.

I have not noticed any change in how well ropinerole works for my rls post op.

Slightly Less Fatty Matty, that is a relief for me to hear. I’ve wondered whether the gastric sleeve surgery might be better for me since it is not bypassing any of the nutrient absorbing small intestine. My first appointment with my doctor is in June and it will be interesting ho hear what he has to say.

I don't have RLS, but I take medications for Bipolar disorder and for that reason (worry about medication absorption) my surgeon and doctor both recommended sleeve rather than RNY, so that's what I'm going to do.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
