Michele 2021 25 Posted April 27, 2021 Has anyone had any issues with their dental care since their Weight loss surgeries? I’ve heard that you can get a prescription toothpaste at the dentist that has extra fluoride...that is helpful. I don’t recall anything being discussed about the risks of WLS on your teeth?? Prestonandme 107 Posted April 27, 2021 There are several ongoing threads addressing dental problems post-surgery. I and others have experienced tooth loss, increased decay, etc. Many of us have been prescribed special fluoride toothpaste and one mentioned that she was given fluoride varnish to prevent decay. If you are experiencing increased dental problems, work closely with your dentist, schedule regular maintenance and cleaning appointments, and make sure that your annual blood work shows no deficiencies. catwoman7 11,220 Posted April 27, 2021 (edited) it's not super common, although it happens to some. Ask your dentist about the prescription fluoride toothpaste. Many are happy to prescribe it even to "normal" patients. And keep on top of your dental care with regular appts, etc, so if you are one of the people who ends up having issues, at least they can catch problems early.
