46w4kds 177 Posted April 23, 2021 Had surgery August of 2017, have gained 11 lbs and still keeping it off! ( for the most part anyways..lol) I'm turning 50 years old in July and trying to stay fit has been kinda hard since covid. Anyone out there after a few years of post op? And how are you doing keeping weight off? 2 MistySkye and Arabesque reacted to this

ShoppGirl 5,016 Posted April 24, 2021 (edited) Congratulations. You look fantastic. Out of curiosity when did the hunger hormones return and what is it like post surgery? Edited April 24, 2021 by ShoppGirl
rjan 164 Posted April 24, 2021 I'm a little over 1 year post op, and sliding into maintenance (lost 1 lb last month) at 5 lbs under my original goal. I notice that if I eat sugar, my hunger comes back. All I have to do is go back to moderate carb and no sugar and I feel the restriction again. I actually feel like this gives me really good control. I can get by with a few days of eating sugar. As long as it doesn't go on so long that my tastes change and cravings get bad, I can get back on my normal diet pretty easily. This allows me to participate in social situations and eat fairly normally at times, but still keep my weight under control.

I can have an occasional treat, even something sugary, like a piece of pie or cake. But I need to get right back on plan (no dragging my treat out over days). And to nip cravings in the bud, I have to keep carbs at least moderately low (the more extensive my treat, the lower and longer I will have to restrict carbs). But it's great to know that I have the flexibility to enjoy something special AND a reliable way not to let it turn into a destructive binge. 2 pdc1605 and bufbills reacted to this

Yes I do get hungry, but I still get sick if I eat alot. I can only eat kids size meals. I have to eat slowly still. Sugar drinks makes me very sick, but I can eat a little sugar treat but not much.
