Found Something Soothing

Recommended Posts

Well, I have no idea WHY this worked so well today, but since it did, I wanted to pass it along. I am having a bad "stuck" day today, where almost nothing I try is going down right. It's a month since I was banded, so I'm still on soft foods, but still have some issues. These days have been a frequent ongoing problem since the surgery, and I've found that by the end of the day I'm near tears from the frustration, hunger, and inability to fix the problem. This afternoon I made myself a cup of tea when I started to notice some low blood sugar signals. I had a few bites of applesauce while the tea was steeping, and then sat down to sip the tea. Well, it's about an hour later now, and I feel so much better! No more shakes, the hunger is gone, and I no longer feel like crying. I love hot tea anyway, but I've never noticed it having this effect before. (Note that I HAVE tried applesauce before, but never with the tea, so it could have been the combination, but definitely wasn't the applesauce alone) Anyone else have this happen?

I havent been banded yet, But my Dr said that if you feel "Stuck" or uncomfortable, to drink something hot.

Glad you found something that worked for you! :)

I agree it was the hot tea. I also haven't been banded yet, but my friend had problems eating in the mornings and Jessie Ahrons (or something like that) that wrote one of the books on lap band did a fill on her one day and she suggested that she start out her day be drinking something hot... coffee, tea... whatever because that will loosen things up.

Wow, that is a good idea, I find that I am more "restricted" in the mornings, so I just have a Protein Shake for Breakfast, then go from there. And as far as low blood sugar goes, I had that problem for awhile because I was still taking my meds, and of course eating less, so it was a pain to deal with. Luckily for me I am off all of my diabetes, and high blood pressure meds. I was surprised to hear you say that you feel like crying when you get hypoglycemic. ME TOO!!!! I thought that that was the weirdest thing. Good Luck

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
