TMI....BM/POOP!! Read on...

Recommended Posts

This is definitely in the TMI category. Look away now and don't read this for the faint of heart!

My poop since surgery and delivering those twin rocks 8 days later has been almost BLACK! Not brown but black! I understand why the stool has improved and not as it once was when eating carbs. My carbs are really low right now and that results in a better stool. The color is what is killing me. Must be some red dye in the chewable vitamins maybe? So weird!

You taking Iron? I know that can do that too.

I just added Iron back into diet a few days ago so I don't think that is it.

I was going to say Iron as well.

You might want to run it by your clinic. Multi-colored poop is not unusual the first month or so after surgery, but you're almost three months out at this point. It may be fine, but I'd check.

The magic 8 ball says iron......iron turns poop black and it only takes a day or so. It turns it hard like concrete and black like wet dirt.

Colored poop is pretty common but Iron can be quite the little devil to the poop system....too much is troubling too little is tiring to the body and systems in general .....ohhh the problems of iron.....LOL

That is just the thing. I have just added Iron back in to my diet and those boogers have been black all along.

BUT....the majority of the food you are eating now is.........protein. The foods you are eating right now are super high in Iron .....therefore you have been eating low amounts of food but the ratios of iron is high.

Your body flushes the iron out every day that is does not use therefore you poop it out.......and it is dark in color.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
