What am I doing wrong? Did I make a mistake?

Recommended Posts

Hi friends,

A bit upset and sad. I’m at day 20 since my VSG and have only lost two lbs since April 3rd. I’m eating the 800-1000 calories my doctor asked of me but I’m not losing any weight. I feel like I’m doing something wrong or made a mistake. I lost 20lbs in the first 9 days but now I’m at a standstill. I’ve heard of the 2nd or 3rd week stall but 10 days sounds a bit much. I’m starting to wonder if I made a mistake. It’s really getting to me. I hear of all these people getting full after three bites of food and I’m not one of them. I’m constantly hungry and snacking on the meals I’m allowed to have

Please help I’m really going through it right now.

Mark

Don't panic! I don't remember the specific day count, but it was about that time that my body did the exact same thing.. I think for about 3 weeks I didn't lose anything. Remember, for 4 weeks now you've basically had nothing to eat - (2 weeks pre-op, 2 weeks post-op liquid diet) now you're starting to add in some puree or soft foods and your body is probably screaming "HOLD ON TO EVERYTHING WE GET!! WE MIGHT HAVE TO GO 4 WEEKS WITHOUT food AGAIN!!" My weight loss has been loss > plateau > loss > plateau > loss > plateau... As of this morning I've lost 113.6lbs, and tomorrow is my 9 month surgiversary. The weight will come off, it will work :)

the infamous three-week stall. Almost everyone goes through their first major stall sometime during the first month after surgery (it's usually the third week, hence the name, but it can really occur any time that month). If you do a search on this site about it, you'll find something like 17,000 posts on it. And no, I am NOT kidding. Just stick to your plan and stay off the scale for a few days if you need to - and rest assured that it WILL break.

most of us hit several of these stalls along our weight loss journey. I think it's your body's way of recalibrating before it moves on. They typically last 1-3 weeks, and as long as you just stick to your plan, they WILL break. My three-week stall was weeks 2 & 3. During week 4, it broke and I lost like 6-8 lbs within a couple of days. So hold tight!

btw - I just did the search for you. We're up to 17,501 posts on this topic:

Try not to freak out too much. It is impossible to eat the way we are eating and NOT lose weight. Stall or no, your trend will be downward and the stall will let up shortly.

Echoing the others, this is the stall. It lasts different lengths for different people. Mine lasted about a month. Try not to panic! Good Luck ❤️

I don’t have any advice, only wanted to share that I’m in a similar boat. I had surgery on the 31st of March and lost 8lbs in the first week. Since then, nothing. I’ve been incredibly careful to stick to my plan, but I’ve actually put on a lb.

I know it’s brutally disheartening, and it’s hard to have faith. But I can’t think of anything else to do! I hope this passes quickly for you and you feel better about it soon.

Boy, I HEAR ya...Same.Exact.Thing. I would've thought that just by eliminating the one beer a night I would have pre-surgery that that in and of itself would've made me drop more weight than this...

Hope you are feeling good even if the scale isn't necessarily reflecting the numbers you (me, too) want...

I am trying to be patient and believe what FindYourFire says - that our body is in a sort of 'fight or flight' mode, holding on to the pounds...

GL, please post when your breakthrough comes - which I know it will!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
