Sugar Addiction

Recommended Posts

Help! I'm addicted to sugar -- bad and this time of year is brutal. My worst temptation is milkshakes; they taste so good and are so easy to drink.

I know I shouldn't have sugar; I feel so much worse when I do. Any other sugar addicts? How do you deal with it? Does anything help with the cravings?

Damn holidays!

Oh Newgirl, I'm the sugaraholic of all!

Its not milkshakes, but anything else with sugar, I'm eating! My downfall lately has been the frozen coffee drinks, so I guess thats kinda like a milkshake.

How do I deal with it - lately, I haven't. I know the longer I stay away from sugar, the more I can avoid it. But one bite and I'm hooked.

I'm having a hard time right now with it myself.

I love milkshakes too!!! I get around it by getting the Walmart brand slim fast (I like the taste better than the real slimfast) and I pour it in my magic bullet blender cup and add about 10 pieces of ice. I let it go round for about a minute and when its done it tastes just like a frosty from Wendy's!! It is really good!

This is an excellent thread regarding this topic. Some REALLY good ideas. Maybe you could make some sugar-free versions of milkshakes? I don't know. I have seen sugar-free strawberry milk powder. You could put that in milk, add some ice.... just trying to think, here. They also have sugar-free chocolate Syrup.< /p>

Thanks everyone,

Great posts and thanks for posting the sugar thread. There are some great ideas there. Dang it, I feel like such an addict and I have the whole "one day at a time" thing going.

I appreciate you all...

I agree with Jack that the longer you stay away from it the easier it gets. I have not had a milkshake since i got the band because i am afraid if i got one, i would be off and running. Sugar is so..... good and so..... bad. Donna

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
