lizonaplane 1,613 Posted April 12, 2021 I haven't had surgery yet, but I take meds that cause Constipation and I also work in oncology where people have constipation from meds. Miralax is great, but it's not something that works instantly, more something to be taken long term. Drinking a lot of fluids, coffee (not sure if you can have coffee yet) and MOVING your body/walking. Also eating more fat. Often depending on the cause of the constipation (like especially from meds like pain meds) adding more Fiber just makes the bloating worse and doesn't help the constipation. I hope you find relief soon!
catwoman7 11,221 Posted April 12, 2021 (edited) check with your clinic first since you just had your gall bladder out two weeks ago, but if they say it's OK, yes - that stuff works, but you can get it much cheaper at Target (Walgreens, too - but it's usually the cheapest at Target). It may not be that particular brand, but it's still magnesium citrate. that stuff is really strong (some G/I doctors use it to clear people out before colonoscopies), but I've used it when nothing else works (including Milk of Magnesia). SummerTimeGirl 582 Posted April 12, 2021 Walmart DEFINITELY has that stuff cheaper. Like 98 cents a bottle. I've taken it in the past.
ShoppGirl 5,034 Posted April 12, 2021 My doctors office said milk of magnesia but I would definitely check with yours first just in case. Also, they told me to add fiber until I can get more vegetables in.
Jnfinney 527 Posted April 12, 2021 I agree with others about checking with your clinic. I was provided a list of medications that were okay after surgery - I know milk of magnesia and dulcolax were on the list.
Kris77 1,539 Posted April 12, 2021 Miralax. Put a scoop in your coffee in the morning. Does the trick for me. It’s gentle too.

It’s gentle too. yes - I do that every morning, too. For the most part, it keeps me from backing up - but on the occasion when I DO get backed up (maybe once a month or so), I'll do the milk of magnesia. And if THAT doesn't work, it's magnesium citrate time... Edited April 13, 2021 by catwoman7 1 Kris77 reacted to this

canadianpopcycle 77 Posted April 15, 2021 After surgery, it took me 6 days to go (had to take Milk of Magnesia), and I birthed a fossil. After that I started taking a few Psyllium Husk capsels a day....and I haven't had an issue since. I was nervous to try anything...since before the surgery I always had the opposite issue (I have been suspicious that I have IBS, but not tested). However, I haven't had an issue with that and the fibre has been helpful.
