Stalling and food portion

Recommended Posts

Hi All, I'm 10 weeks post op, I had surgery 1/31/2021 and I've hit a stall and gained 1 pound....how 😫??I'm not eating so much more or unhealthy it's messing with me, I'm still staying between 2-3 oz of food because that's all I can eat, I've got to the point that I can drink Water a lot faster and I was wondering if that's normal because I read and hear from ppl that they still struggle. I struggled at the beginning and a bit on my 7th week again but now I can take big sips....is that bad? Also how many ounces should I really be eating now?

I never really had trouble with fluids, even at the beginning.

also, stalls are very normal. I had several along the way. Just stick to your program and stay off the scale for awhile if you need to. It WILL break...

People vary a lot with these things. I could drink Water more than others at my stage. Perhaps because I've always been a big water drinker. Even so, I remember being annoyed in months 2-3 when I'd go out and exercise in the sun and be really, really thirsty, but could only drink 1/4-1/2 cup of water. I think you're well within the range of normal.

I had a stall that started after 2 months and lasted 3.5 weeks. It sucks, but it's totally normal.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
