Restrictions after Gastric Sleeve

Recommended Posts

Are there any driving restrictions after gastric sleeve surgery? Mine is scheduled for April 19th. Just trying to plan accordingly.

I was told that as long as I wasn't taking any of my pain medication anymore and if I wasn't too tired to drive it was ok for me to go ahead.

I was told not to drive till my 1 week post-op appointment. I could undestand why because turning the wheel pulled on my incisions. If I'd had to make a quick turn or something, it would've been really painful.

I didn’t have any restrictions per my surgeon on driving. I’m sure every surgeon is diff and patient should follow what their surgeons wants. I Didn’t need to take any pain meds so once home on Tuesday I was driving to the store by Thursday. Surgery was that Monday. Although I Had a really easy recovery so prob lucky in that respect.

I should add it was 3 years ago so maybe my memory isn’t exact on when I started driving to the store lol but I just remember it not being long before I was out and about. Best of luck to you for a speedy recovery😊

My memory is a little murky too....I think I drove around 3-4 weeks post-op...I probably could have driven around the 2 mark, but I was milking it and getting people to drive me around. I mean, they offered, who am I to turn them down, lol.

I only took pain meds on day 1.

Note: I do remember it hurting going over bumps on the ride home from hospital...as a passenger (bring a small pillow to hug!). And in the days after, I remember it hurting a little when I had to twist to put my seatbelt on (again as a passenger).

I think I was about a week out when I started driving.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
