So I’m a week post -op and on the purée stage. I find that I’m a lot more hungry on this stage more than anything else. While I was on liquid , I didn’t feel the need to eat. Now that I can, it’s seems like yes I do get the restriction but I still feel hungry. I rather be on real food stage at this point where I can eat a more balanced meal to fill me up. Anyone else experienced this ?

You could be physically hungry but are you on anything to help reduce stomach acid? If not, stomach acid can make you feel like you are hungry.

Okay..it is possible that your stomach is producing too much acid for the little amount of food/liquid you are consuming.

I had to take nexium for a month following my sleeve surgery. Maybe have a chat with your doctor or surgeon see if they recommend taking something in the short term to reduce stomach acid. If that is the issue hopefully it helps.

Not meeting or being close to your Protein goal would be a contributing factor too. Protein is very good at satisfying hunger. What are you eating if you’re eating so little protein? Generally we’re told to eat our protein first at any meal than any vegetables, etc. you may be able to fit in. At purée stage, probably 80% of what I ate was protein. The rest was stock, gravy, Mayonnaise, a few vegetable puréed in Soup, etc. added to help purée the food. Scrambled eggs, milky rolled oats, mashed boiled eggs & mayo, yoghurt, puréed chicken breast with stock/gravy, puréed soup, ...

I’m wondering as well if it’s due to not hitting my Protein mark or even nowhere close to it. Today I had about 10 grams of Protein.

It may be helpful if you make sure you don't drink any Water 30 minutes before eating, this may allow you to eat more. If drinking your protein, small sips often.

What else are you eating? If nothing else or much else than 10gms of protein , I'd say that has a lot to do with your feeling hungry.

Well on purée , I am only allowed to 2oz of food per meal and only three meals . So for instances today, I had tuna and an avocado puréed together and then I had refined Beans and shredded chicken puréed and I felt snackish so I had apple sauce. I also had 6 0z of Protein Shake.

Make drinking yoghurt your snack. It counts as Fluid as well as a food. I used to get 22g of Protein from the 260ml bottle of Yopro. Sipped on it for a couple of hours. You can make your own by adding milk to yoghurt. Throw in some Protein Powder for an extra boost. (I also added Benefibre, collagen & silica.) Your Protein Shake is a fluid too so doesn’t necessarily count as one of your meals. Well, that was what I was told. Also told to include an egg in my diet every day if possible. Two eggs scrambled (added extra milk to make them very soft) was Breakfast for three days & almost 10g of protein per day.

Don't discount the stomach acid...that was what it was for me. I NEVER got acid indigestion before or immediately after surgery, so I thought "Why bother?" But when I was feeling hungry after surgery, my nutritionist told me to take it (I had a prescription for Omneprazole(sp?)) and it completely eliminated my hunger. Give it a try!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
