Going to Red Lobster at 4 weeks post op

Recommended Posts

Is it a good idea to go to red lobster and get their maple chicken and potatoes at 4 weeks post op? I know I’m not going to be able to eat much, I had a slice of low fat turkey earlier and it made me feel bloated.I think it’s because I eat to fast.

I'd get the snow crab legs. Crab is soft, delicious, not too much volume. High quality protien.

I agree - ask your dietitian. I wouldn't have been able to eat that, but that might just be me. I didn't eat potatoes until I was probably a year out - also, some people have trouble with chicken the first few weeks or months. I remember eating shrimp cocktail early out, although I can't remember exactly when that was. I could eat like four of them.

Snow crab legs also naturally take forever to eat so win win.

omg this is the first quote I read since my surgery and I was happy to you are ready for lobster! I am not craving anything but I would like to be able to eat something like that one day and not feel so guilty. let us know if it sat well and I would probably not combine it with butter i know sometimes they add butter to seafood. that oil and fat might not go well. dont know. everyone tolerates different thou. I have not had crab legs since I went to vegas all you can eat buffet i think once I am cleared I will do just that lobster diner and crab legs!

I've did something similar, sadly it was part of my family lifestyles I have no control. I notice that after surgery buttery sauces like the ones they used at Red Lobster didn't agree with me, everytime I ate shrimps or steaks in delicious garlic butter goodness I have dumping symptoms. I had sweet potatoes too at some point and hit a weightloss stall for days. Dr scolded me hehehe.

Did you have the sleeve or bypass?

I didn’t think the dumping was really a thing with the sleeve but haven’t had anything really fattening or greasy yet. Guess I have that to look forward to.

I have dumped twice...both times from eating eggs. It wasn't pleasant, but I can now eat them and buttery sauces with no issues.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
