Nicoled 0 Posted April 2, 2021 I'm feeling frustrated. I had an appointment today with my Barbaric Physiologist to discuss my food log and she told me I can not have any sweets and that the piece of chocolate I ate can really hurt me after surgery. This comment just makes me want to lie on my food log! I know I can't eat candy after surgery but I will be able to eat it in maintenance mode and my pre-op diet is the same diet as my maintenance diet. I have been eating 1200 calories a day, getting in my Protein, veggies, starches etc and feel that having an occasional sweet is part of being balanced and satisfying a craving so I don't give in and binge later. The Psychologist talked about how the chocolate will lead to gaining weight later on, but I know I can not go the rest of my pre-op diet or the rest of my life never eating sugar. I'm just feeling very emotional about this right now and would like to hear from other people.
starladustangel 270 Posted April 2, 2021 I sometimes have a piece or two of Sugar Free Chocolate. I do log it in my fitness pal but I have not had my food logs checked pre or post op. For some people one piece of candy can lead to binges though.
Jaelzion 1,127 Posted April 3, 2021 I am in maintenance and I do have a sweet treat occasionally. As long as I get right back on plan, I haven't found it to be a problem. Like you, it's not realistic to think I will NEVER again have a sugar-sweetened dessert. That being said, I was more strict during my pre-op diet. At that time I didn't eat off plan (although I did break down and eat yogurt when I was supposed to be on liquids only for 10 days). It's not the end of the world, but try to stick to the pre-op diet as good pre-op dietary adherence has been found to correlate with good weight loss outcomes. Don't beat yourself up, just try to start over. 1 Nicoled reacted to this
Creekimp13 5,840 Posted April 3, 2021 I eat dark chocolate every single day. One square. About 55 calories worth. It has a gram of protien, a gram of Fiber, and I enjoy it:) I can't mindlessly eat anything sugary or I will get into trouble with too many calories and will get nauseated past 200 refined sugar calories. But that little square of chocolate is a delight...and I have had no issues eating it daily with mindful intent....keeping it as part of my balanced daily diet. 2 starladustangel and mother_of_many_50 reacted to this

Or SF Russell stover "reeses" [emoji7] chocolate affects the brain like drugs and happy endorphins come thru....its true what doc said but up to you to stay in control, have a good support system. Dont sneak food like a hobbit. Your working towards a goal for a reason, yes you can have it in maintenance, just keep the same mentality. Plus food wont sprout legs and run away (unless its alive), meaning you will have all the time in the world to eat "the bad stuff" in moderation while balancing healthy eating & exercise [emoji177]Sent from my SM-G975U using BariatricPal mobile app
