Bariatric Fusion Vitamins & Lead Warning

Recommended Posts

My bariatric nutritionist and doctor’s office recommended the Bariatric Fusion brand of chewable Multivitamins to take 4x daily basically for the rest of my life.

When reading the package, there’s a Proposition 65 warning:

“Warning: consuming this product can expose you to chemicals including lead, which are known to the State of California to cause birth defects or other reproductive harm.”

I didn’t find much after searching online aside from a lawsuit and settlement agreement about lead in their products from 2018, and related health and safety code violation. (https://www.oag.ca.gov/prop65/60-Day-Notice-2017-02545)

Does anyone have any insight on this? I’m thinking if I need to take these for the rest of my life, I should be switching to a safer brand!

Thanks

I've seen that warning on a few other products, too.

if you decide to switch brands, just make sure whatever you choose meets the American Society of Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery requirements (I've attached the report - you'll have to scroll done to see the requirements). With most drug store/grocery store brands, like Centrum, for example, you'll have to take two a day to meet the requirements. With some bariatric-specific Vitamins, you only need to take one. Also, although most of us do take chewables for the first few weeks or months after surgery (I took them for the whole first year), most people switch over to regular tablets at some point.

That warning is on so many things these days. I saw it on a bentonite clay I wanted but ultimately didn’t get.

It’s a double edge sword: good because knowledge is power but on the other hand it gets overwhelming.

If you decide to stick with them, call the company and ask why about it.

Good Luck ❤️

You may want to check out ProCare, Bariatric Advantage, and Celebrate. They are all bariatric Vitamin companies. Most will send free samples, and if not, they offer low cost samples. Four a day forever is a lot. I’m going with ProCare’s one a day with Iron and the calcium chews after one month post op. Two nutritionists at different bariatric practices ok’ed the above Vitamins plus opurity by Unjury. Good luck!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
