Please forgive what may seem like my many posts...

I am a week post-surgery today and I am having a lot of difficulty with this liquid only diet. My hunger and/or cravings were non-existant for the first 2-3 days. But now? I am having some serious issues. It's not hunger either. It's simply wanting something to quench this crave.

My diet has consisted of 2oz of Protein Shake for Breakfast, lunch, dinner; Water and/or Crystal Light; chicken (bone) broth; and sugar free ice pops. I feel like I'm going to lose my mind.

I need some prayers...positive words...advice....whatever you can throw at me.

When I was early post op and homebound, I completely stopped watching TV commercials (and eventually TV) because they started prompting cravings.

If you can find what is causing your cravings and try to work around it or remove it, hopefully you’ll be able to “quench the crave”

*Also you may need a bit more fluids because it’s possible you’re thirsty

Congratulations on a successful surgery and good luck ❤️

Call your doctor or dietician. See if you can start something from the next phase?

This is probably my issue... commercials and the show Chopped. I'm gonna stay away from those.

Yes! I can’t even watch a show like the Great British Bake-off unless I’ve already eaten or I will suddenly need to make dessert 😩

You know.... I felt the same way. Then my dietician advanced me to purees. Goodness, I was so excited. But eating is more like a chore now and is no longer pleasurable. I have to eat super slowly and carefully to make sure I don't eat too fast or take too big of bites. I'm not trying to scare you, I just want you to be aware that there are struggles on the next stages, too. Good luck!

@Jnfinney Thank you for the heads up! I pretty much gathered that getting used to food of any kind after the surgery and 2 weeks of basically eating nothing, is likely going to do a number on me.

I am very interested to see what the pureed phase is going to look like though. I don't know what to puree.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
