FindingShan_vsg 0 Posted March 30, 2021 Does anyone know if a urine test will be done? Or just blood work?
BigSue 1,392 Posted March 30, 2021 If you are a female of childbearing age (and haven't had a hysterectomy), you will almost certainly have a urine test for pregnancy. Other than that, testing can vary depending on what your doctor orders.
catwoman7 11,220 Posted March 30, 2021 I don't remember having any urine tests.
Jnfinney 527 Posted March 30, 2021 I had a urine test. They checked for blood in my urine and said they do a urine test on all their patients just in case there is an infection they want to be able to treat it before surgery. However, I’m sure every clinic is different.
FindingShan_vsg 0 Posted March 30, 2021 Thanks everyone! I just wanted to make sure I didn’t pee before I go. Lol
lizonaplane 1,613 Posted April 2, 2021 They can test your blood for pregnancy as well, and actually it's more accurate. Since they will be taking your blood anyway, they might just do a serum HCG (blood test for pregnancy).

I was unable to produce a urine sample because, well, they told me not to drink anything after midnight. The nurse pleaded with me to squeeze out three drops, and I tried, but got nothing. The nurse seemed annoyed that they would have to do a blood test for pregnancy and told me that it could delay the start of my surgery, but that turned out not to be true (when I looked at my test results, the time of the pregnancy test result was around the same time as all the other blood tests). That's strange that they told you it would take longer for the pregnancy results than the other test results. Some tests take longer but I haven't heard of the serum HCG taking a long time. It would take longer than a urine pregnancy test but not than other bloodwork that they would likely want results of before surgery. *I am not a doctor or nurse* but my job involves reviewing patient medical charts (I work in cancer pharmaceutical research). My nurse was nice about it but I had same deal. I didn’t drink after midnight except for the Gatorade my surgeon bas you drink three hours prior and I went pee twice before I went so they did a blood test. They just have to ask for it stat which they don’t love to do but my surgery went on at scheduled time.
