What does restriction feel like?

Recommended Posts

I'm a SPED para and since September been doing small group and hybrid days. I've been taking Protein Drinks and occasionally a small, cold snack because my breaks were 8 to15 minutes if I was lucky. I don't waste time with a microwave. Eat what you can in your break time and wait 30 min. then drink the Protein to stay full and meet your macros. I'd take a cheese stick wrapped in meat, or low carb veggies, or frozen berries. Depending on your tolerance you can have some cold chicken, a hard-boiled egg, cheese chunks and nuts (allergen aware), Jerky, or the old standby, a Protein Bar.

There is probably some truth to that. I'm pretty much a grazer now at 2.5+ years out.

Me too, bigtime.

I can tell when I am approaching full and want to stop before I get there. I have not overeaten yet.

Trust me, I only did it once. It was absolutely miserable. After that, I learned to pick up on the more subtle "fullness" cues I got after surgery.

But it would have been pretty challenging for me to finish eating a "meal" in under 30 mins back then. Even now, It takes me about 45 mins to an hour to finish a "normal" meal for me (longer if there's lots of talking). If I eat too fast, I'll barf, so its necessary for me to eat slow.

I've been a grazer almost from the beginning. I eat about 6 mini-meals throughout the day. It just comes naturally. Eating a full meal is slow and uncomfortable for me. About the closest I come to a regular meal is eating a can of Soup. Because my appetite is a lot less frequent and also less urgent, so far I haven't found myself overeating. Just eating a small snack every two hours or so.

One advantage of eating this way is that I almost never come close to testing the boundaries of my restriction at all.

I assume my eating will be similar to yours when I am fully recovered, Jaelzion. I tend to get hungry mid-morning and in the afternoon (3-4 pm ish). A string cheese, serving of fruit, or serving of beef Jerky are all I need, though.

Yep, this is my feeling of full....actually its over-full. My goal is always to finish eating before I reach this point. I am successful maybe 80% of the time.
You are so right...my dietician and surgeon have said over and over, eat until satisfied rather than feeling full

Thank you @ms.sss. It is super hard to tell how much I can eat when I just started being able to eat food!

I agree I can’t tell when I’m full and I also get the same feeling. Some days I feel like I’m never full. I’m so lost. Tomorrow starts purée for me

I am on the pureed/liquid diet too I had Gastric Bypass 6 days ago. I have been relying on the 2-4 tablespoons measurements. I only had one time wherr I felt some pressure in my chest I think that was a full feeling.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
