Powder protien Drinks or Ready to Drink

Recommended Posts

So how does everyone feel about using Podwer Protein insted of the ready to drink i know they are way more convenient but sometimes a little more expensive also how do you prepare the powder so it equals the amount of protein and calories your supposed to have (not sure if that makes any sense) i hope it does am on the fence my surgery is April 26 and i haven't been able to buy anything i can't afford anything hopefully i can get some stuff beginning of the month.

the only ready-to-drink ones I liked were from Unjury. I was 90% a powder user, though. You just get a shaker bottle or throw it in a blender. Depending on the flavor, I'd mix it with either Water or unsweetened almond milk (some people use dairy milk)

it will say on the container how much Protein and calories are in one scoop (all the brands I've ever gotten come with a plastic scoop inside the container)

I use 99% powder. Equate (Wal Mart) is cheap and my favorite. I put the powder, some ice and Fairlife fat free milk in the blender and it whips up light and frothy. The blender makes the difference. It is not nearly as good in a shaker.

The scoop inside the container will give you the amount and calories.

I keep a limited number of Premier Protein premade shakes on hand in case I need to grab something quickly. Even if I buy a four-pack, I find I tire of any flavor quickly.

I use both. I buy Premier Protein Smores RTD flavor exclusively (only one I like from their line) and I purchase Shamrock Farms Protein Shakes RTD locally when out and about. I use RTD to mix in my coffee everyday (decaf). I do have Unjury powders in Rootbeer, chocolate, Unflavored and Santa Fe Chili (haven't tried it). I like them ok. Rootbeer is my favorite. Bariatricpal has a chocolate that I really like in powder form. And I purchase Carnation Light Start RTD instant Breakfast drinks (were on pre-op diet) that I use occassionally for a quick grab and go snack or extra Protein type thing. So I guess Im more RTD than powder. They are just more convenient and taste better and do not seem to have that "protein" aftertaste.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
