Sleevers....What brand multi vitamin are you taking?

Recommended Posts

My surgeon says I can use the Multivitamin patch for the first 30 days then I’ll switch to regular vitamins...looking at the chewable ones but haven’t decided yet since I’m still waiting for my official surgery date. I got the 30 day supply of vitamin patches in the mail today so I’m all set there. :-)

I wasn't restricted to any Vitamin. I was told to keep taking my Vitamins as usual. But they added on Vit B12, D3 & Iron, and chewable vit C. I am currently taking Centrum 50+ multi vitamin. I bought the chewable Multi Vitamins ahead of time to find out that it wasn't necessary. Buuuut... I hv a Pain in the Butt Dr. That's making my anxiety go crazy. But that's not neither here or there [emoji23] I just take my vitamins daily & read what everyone's doing on here.
Good luck w ur choice!

I agree with the remark about them. They are very chalky. I honestly hated them before, but after a week or two they aren't bad. The thing is, I'd rather have 2 of them a day than a bunch of capsules any day. It's more a pick your burden. I am on so many meds as it is and they aren't meds that can be removed as weight loss occurs. Each time I take my meds, that's more air into my stomach. So chalky it is lol.

My medical team recommended Flinstones chewables, and 9 months out I've stuck with them. I buy the Equate (Wal-Mart store brand) equivalent. I take 2 per day, one in the morning and one in the evening. I also take 2 calcium chews per day, an extra potassium supplement and a Vitamin D supplement.

Do you take the potassium and Vitamin d because you were low since the surgery or did you already take those? What brand calcium chews?

I've always run low on Vitamin D, so that's not new. Also I'm not gunna lie: the immunity system benefits of Vitamin D has been a concern over the last year. I don't go crazy with it: one 5,000 IU capsule a day in addition to what is in the Multivitamins. The low potassium is something that cropped up in a post-surgery blood panel.

Thanks for the heads up. I know to avoid opurity. This is exactly the kind of info I was looking for. Thanks

I still have about 3 weeks worth of the opurity multivitamins. Every day I choke that thing down. The one day it wasn't awful was when I took it with a cup of coffee. Slightly less bad is taking it with yogurt. It also helps if you break it into smaller pieces first. I usually kind of bite it into 4 smaller pieces, take a bite of yogurt or banana and chew as quickly as I can. I don't retch the way I did for the first 4 weeks, but they are still awful, awful, awful.

Where do you get multivitamin Patches? I have heard of those, but haven't run across any for sale anywhere.

“Patchaid.com” is the website the nutritionist at my doctors office gave me. They arrived quickly! They’re not very large, cloth, hypoallergenic adhesive. You wear it for about 8 hours or so a day. I expect my stomach will appreciate not having to try to deal with those Vitamin pills or chewables for the first month post op!

The multivitamins are Equate (Wal-Mart generic) equivalent to Flinstones chewables. The Vitamin D and potassium supplements are just the cheap Spring Valley (again Wal-Mart). The calcium chews I use are Viactiv from Amazon. Tasty!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
