blahblahblah 4 Posted December 7, 2007 My rings are getting way too big. I have my wedding and engagement bands, but also an antique ring that was my great great aunt's, my mother's after her, and now mine. I am going to have to take it off soon, but I can't decide to have it resized now or wait until later.... What has everyone else done? Thanks!!! I love these decisions! Jachut 487 Posted December 7, 2007 Waited till I was almost at goal weight to resize mine. I didnt wear them for a few months.
KimInMD 1 Posted December 7, 2007 Wait till you are almost at goal to get it resized. I rolled a piece of cloth band aide on mine until even that didn't work anymore. I was going to resize, and hubby said he was so proud of his "new wife" that he bought me a whole new wedding set. Now I'm thin- AND sparkley! If your heirloom ring is big, stop wearing it for awhile until it's time to get it sized. It's sad not to wear it, but it's better than losing it because it's too big. tonya66 13 Posted December 7, 2007 I had mine sized about 25 lbs from goal, my wedding rings went from a size 8 to a size 6. I just had my Grandmothers ring that I inherited re-sized as well, down to a size 6 1/2 for my right hand. I have numerous rings that I inherited from my Grandmother that are different types of precious gems, I've been trying to get them re-sized a few at a time, the jewler is charging $75 per ring, it can add up. So I would wait until your closer to goal then get them resized. If you must wear something, buy a cheap knockoff wedding set ($10 - $20) to wear until your ready to get one sized. I almost lost mine in the ocean before I got mine re-sized, so be careful wearing them when they are too big.

Rain Hi Rain, I am starting to run into this. Fortunatly, my wedding set is free resize. When they are rediculous I will resize, then resize agian...since it is free. As for my others, I am waiting for resizing which is many lbs and months away. I do have a suggestion for the heirloom rings if you want to wear them in the meantime, could you put them on a chain and wear as a necklace until time to resize? Just a thought. What a wonderful problem to have:) Happy banding, MMT
JennJenn92 0 Posted December 7, 2007 I actualy plan on purchasing plain old gold bands from Wal Mart or wherever as I go smaller.....
Chickie 15 Posted December 7, 2007 I was at goal for over a year before I did anything about re sizing my rings.
Lynn_Marie 0 Posted December 7, 2007 After losing 30#, I took my wedding rings and my grandmother's wedding ring that I wear on my right hand to a jeweler that we know and trust and he sized them down 2 sizes for me. I guess I may have to do it again if I lose all my weight. But it's definitely worth it!!! :whoo:
Wheetsin 714 Posted December 7, 2007 I too have free resizing for life on my rings, however - there's only so many times you want to resize a ring (it's not ring-specific, just the properties of the metal), so it's best to wait until you can get everything done at once. I would think anyway, I don't have studies to back me up. My rings literally fall off me. My wedding set is heavy/substantial, my anniversary set is much more lightweight. If my wedding set falls off I will hear/feel it. Not the case with my anniversary set. About 8 months ago I was digging through some produce at the store, and my hand came out without rings on. I made them clear the entire bin to find the rings. When I wash my hands, I have to take my rings off, otherwise they will fal linto the sink or come off when I dry. For my wedding set (3 bands total), I bought a 14k temporary resizer. All 3 bands were soldered together, as though it's one big ring, so this works well. My anniversary set (2 rings total) is not soldered, but it could stand to take up a little more room on my finger so I bought two additional thin plain gold bands in a size that fits, and added one to the top and one to the bottom. I also had part of them notched out, so that they would fit up against the bands with stones.
losingjusme 12 Posted December 7, 2007 i, too, was lucky enough to get a new set of rings when DH got his promotion. my original rings were literally falling off and we went to the jewelry store to see about resizing and came out with new ones ... OMG!! they are size 7 and are now starting to fall off. i dont think i will convince DH to get yet another new set (not that i want one) so i will wait until i get really close to goal (15-20 lbs) and have them resized. in the mean time, i dunno what i am going to do. i was thinking about just getting a plain platinum band that fits to go on top of my set to hold it in place, but not sure yet. georgia girl 35 Posted December 7, 2007 My experience with rings, is opposite from all of yours. I haven't wore my wedding ring set in 3 years. I had to take them off when I got pregnant (probably should have taken them off before then) and haven't been able to wear them since. I was about 200lbs when I got married and I can't wait until I can wear them again. I still have an indention on my finger from wearing them while they were so tight for so long. I'm hoping I will get to wear them again soon.

wombat712 2 Posted December 7, 2007 Mine are really lose - all except for my wedding set. It is now comfortable. The huge divet in my finger has subsided and it fits like it should I can actually get it off and on without using soap as a lubricant. Last year my DH bought me a cute ring for my other hand. I now wear it on my middle finger but it actually fits my pointer finger. It has free resizing so I'm about to take it in.
MyKdsDad 1 Posted December 7, 2007 Joy put her redesigned set in the jewelry box for now. I got her a platinum band with a one carat solataire to wear till she can get the set resized again after she loses all that she wants to.
nomadem 1 Posted December 7, 2007 if you dont want to cut your older pieces I think you can get good quaility ring guards put in by the jeweler
