Rosie15 9 Posted December 7, 2007 Hi Just banded on Tuesday, when do the bandages fall off? Do we take them off? Should we re bandage them? Do we put any ointment on them? Thanks :help:
WorththeWeight 0 Posted December 7, 2007 My doc told me not to take them off for abt 10 days. They should start to peel off in the shower but don't pull them off yourself. You should have received post-op instructions abt the bandages. After they come off, you don't have to rebandage them. I put aloe on the scar to keep it from scarring and itching so badly. JonathanLA 0 Posted December 7, 2007 Mine took almost 4 weeks for all of them to fall off. Don't pick at them. They will just fall off on their own.
CanadianComfort 0 Posted December 7, 2007 Assuming that your surgeon uses steristrips (as opposed to surgerical tape or stitches), mine began curling up at the edges after my first shower. Most of them had fallen off by themselves within 6 days. I was told by my surgeon to remove any that had not fallen off at the 7 day mark. Since that time I have been putting polysporin on them to reduce the scarring and promote healing. It would probably be best to check with the clinic/hospital where you were banded just to make sure. Initial Consult: November 8, 2007 Surgery Date: November 20, 2007 Banded by Dr. Mumford, SWLC, Mississauga (Canada)
Jamesmartin 0 Posted December 7, 2007 I am 2 days post op and one of mine has started to curl on one of the smaller holes. I am a little afraid to shower, in fear they will fall off. I was told 6 to 10 days and not to peal them off.
cutiepie 0 Posted December 7, 2007 I was banded 9 days ago and my bandages have not moved an inch! My pre-op group was advised not to physically take bandages off--- let them come off on their own. We were also told to use anti-bacterial shower gel to wash our stomachs. Plus, when our bandages did fall off, not to put anything on the incesions. Our nurse was pretty clear not to use any neosporin or any other type of ointments!
steph_co 9 Posted December 7, 2007 I'm still waiting for the last of my steri-strips to fall off. The bandages that covered the steri-strips, I was able to take off the day after surgery. But the steri-strips I was told to not remove them - just trim the edges as they peel. I am 3 weeks post-op. I have basically two small pieces left...like smaller than a penny. But they are both right ON the incisions, so I don't mess with them.
cutiepie 0 Posted December 7, 2007 How are you feeling three weeks later? Are you still experienceing a lot of discomfort at your port site? That is the only spot I still feel pain and have trouble sleeping on that side of my stomach! By the way, your page decorations are very pretty!
twiggyinhiding 0 Posted December 7, 2007 i'm 9 days today and the only strips left are the ones on my port site... i was told to let them fall off on their own and do not put anything on the incisions when they do fall off...i have discovered i'm apparently allergic to the glue in the large bandages they use...those were able to come off day after surgery..and itch itch itch...i did get a small red rash and my neighbor who is a nurse..said its from the glue....still cant put ointment on it.... leave it be she said..tc all and gl
Bobp 0 Posted December 7, 2007 I am suprised to hear you all have bandages. My surgeon used some kink of clear glue-like stuff. After about 8-10 days it started to get darker and was peeling itself off like peeling skin. The result is scars that you can barely see 2 weeks after surgery. TulipStar 2 Posted December 7, 2007 Mine came off at 14 days. If it wasn't off, I pulled it off.
aubrie 6 Posted December 7, 2007 Mine had the clear glue stuff AND the steristrips. the little ones fell off about 10 days out, and the port site was stubborn. The doctor took it off on my two week check up so he could see my incision. My problem is that I'm spitting sutures. I pointed the sharp little tiny thing poking out of my incision to him, and he said yes, it was a suture. He tugged at it and clipped it off. It's the internal ones. Came home and two days later have three more!!! I went to see my regular doc as my surgeon is two hours away. He said to leave them alone. They will dissolve and the little tips will just fall out. So I guess I was worried about nothing. My surgeon contacted all my physicians about my surgery. Now they all want to see me! Want to see my scars and everything. I think the lap band is a bit of a novelty around here.

I physically feel normal 100% - like I never had the surgery. No port pain, no nothing. The only problem I ever have is if I bend over too far and my tummy fat pushes my port up against my ribs - that doesn't feel good! LOL But otherwise, I feel great! Thanks for the compliment. Alfie 58 Posted December 8, 2007 Hi Bobp, I haven't had the lapband yet but I just got my gall bladder out and my surgeon used the same stuff as yours. It just covers my incisions and looks scablike but I was told it is some type of glue.
