Protein drink idea

Recommended Posts

Hello! I am a week post op and still on liquids. I also have been struggling with Protein Drinks and reaching my Protein intake. I was perusing Walmart today and was in the baking aisle. I stopped at the extracts and flavorings and noticed a wide variety. I picked up the cake batter flavor and the strawberry flavor but they also had banana, lemon, spearmint, maple, etc. I just added a dash of the cake batter flavoring to 8 oz skim milk and 1/2 scoop of Protein Powder and I prefer the taste so much more! I just thought this would be something else some other people could try if they’re getting tired of the same things.

I make mint shakes sometimes. Either with vanilla Protein powder or chocolate protein powder and some peppermint extract. With the vanilla, I'll usually put a couple of drops of green food coloring in, too. And I blend both (choc and van) with ice in my blender. Shamrock Shake!

Thank you! That’s a great idea! Every time I drive past McDonald’s I think.... man.. it’s shamrock shake season! Now I’ll make myself a Protein one!

P.S. I always use milk or unsweetened almond milk. You could do it with Water, but it wouldn't be as "shake-y"

If you want something incredibly delicious and shakey....try frozen bananas with coco powder, skim milk, coconut milk, frozen greek yogurt (I just dump some in a zip lock baggie and break pieces off after it's frozen) and vanilla...in the blender.

Bananas do have sugar, so watch out if you are sensitive.

This is my go to when I crave ice cream. It's amazing, decent nutrition, and you can add protien powder if you want.

@Creekimp13 and @Terri77 I’m still on liquids, so I didn’t think I was allowed to have any solids blended yet 😩

I made a Protein shamrock shake this morning.
1 bottle Fairlife nutrition plan vanilla, a handful of ice, mint extract.

Tastes so good but made a huge serving!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
