I was a regular smoker for years. Then started vaping about 2 years ago,but still had a couple of cigarettes a day . I still have an occasional 1 and I cut my vape juice to almost no nicotine. I have 2 weeks before my nicotine test and I'm at 0% vape juice and I'm worried about the test. Has anyone out there had similar situation??

Came across your post through a google search. I’m dealing with the same thing and wondering how you made out with your test?

I just saw your post. How did your test come out? Mine didn’t test for nicotine, they tested for cotinine (sp?) because it stays in your body longer. I quit 8 days before my test and it came back negative

Yes I did the patch and 0% nicotine vape which I barely used and I was a pack a day smoker I did this 3/31 and my surgery was 4/14 no problem. I did tell them I was on the patch and to deal with it. They said the blood work would show if it was cigarettes versus the patch, so I guess I passed. Now I am still struggling since it's been since 3/31 and I find it harder then the food restrictions to stay quit.

I bought nicotine tests for home, and by day 10 or so, I was clear. I vape heavily for many years. I read that if you stop vaping to 4 days before the test, you'll clear it since the typical test isn't as sensitive. Hope this helps.

I am an ex-smoker. I quit because of the surgery. I forgot I had to go for the monthly urine test and stopped smoking about 7 days beforehand. It came back negative. I am not saying you can smoke you to then, but if you smoke and have to go for them, please stop a week before and you’ll be ok. I haven’t had a cigarette since the end of January. Do I miss it? Absolutely! Will I start again? I hope not.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
