What size is your meal portion???

Recommended Posts

Question for ya's!

How much do you eat for one meal portion??

My doc says 2 oz. at a time... that's exactly 4 tablespoons. 3-5 times a day. In fact...because i don't think 2 oz. is enough... and yes... that's suppose to be for life. ugh! :cry

I've heard of other people eating 1/2 cup to a cup. So it'll be interesting to hear what people have to say.

Thanks!

Kayla

Kayla, for me 2 oz is about right. I've been banded for a year and a half and with good restriction it is no more than that. That being said, if you can consume 1/2 to 1 cup of food and still lose then good for you. Don't force yourself into 2oz if you don't have to! If you lose at that rate that is your sweet spot. For me its much less, sometimes only 3 bites. Hope this helps. Good luck!

I eat 1/2-1 cup, usually closer to the 1 cup. I find if I'm making the right food choices, I can barely get in 1,000 cals on that. I don't know how I'd do it on 2 oz, but I support anything that works!

I was not actually told to go by oz or cups. We are given a diet to follow that is either 1000, 1200 or 1500 calories per day. The 1000 calories a day consists of 7 meat/proteins, 1 milk, 3 starches, 2 fruits, 2 vegetables & 2 fats. I can say that at dinnertime I will usually have 1/2 cup of starch, 1/2 cup vegetable & 3 oz. of Protein & 1 fat. I feel satisfied eating this for dinner.

My NUT also said that I should strive for 1200 calories a day and when I am feeling more hungry it will be time for a fill. I have not had my first fill yet so she indicated that I would have to diet to 1200 calories until restriction. I try to average between 1000-1200 and I track all my food via Free Diet Plans at SparkPeople . So far it is working for me because I am down over 45lbs. since banding.

My diet today was:

Breakfast: 1 egg, 1 slice of sharp cheddar & a piece of 12 Grain bread and 1/2 cup of applesauce

Lunch: 1 Joseph's whole wheat toritilla, 2 oz. of 97% lean deli ham, 1 oz. of swiss cheese, lettuce leaf, Tomato, onion 1 tbsp of light mayo.< /p>

Dinner: 3 oz center cut pork chop, 1/2 cup mashed potato, 1/2 cup corn and 6 almonds.

Snack: (Which I have not eaten yet and may not get to) FF Jello & 1/2 banana.

This a typical day for me. May not work for all but I am following my doctors diet plan.

I know that the weight will slow down because I am just on a band honeymoon right now. LOL

Best wishes.

It depends what I'm eating - solid Protein and vegetables, its usually under a cup. I can eat about a cup of something like Pasta, Soup, about 1/4 of a cup of crap Cereal like cornflakes but probably 2/3 of a cup of oatmeal (which is weird hey?) etc. I can eat an apple and that fills me up so that I simply cant fit anything else in, cheese on its own I can eat a lot of but put it on a cracker and two is my limit, but I can easily get through two cups of a tossed garden salad, which is not really a problem, as it crunches down to not really be that volume anyway.

I eat simply what I would call small meals. I dont measure them and if there's too much on my plate I just leave it. But I've really gotten the hang of serving myself the right portion these days

Yes, 2 oz (1/4 cup) to 4 oz is about IT for me: I eat 1/4 cup oatmeal for Breakfast, 1/4 cup tuna for lunch, and 1/2 cup of chicken, etc for dinner. I'm getting in 600-800 calories a day.

If I eat more than the above portions, it (the band) really tells me I've eaten too much.

I've just had one fill and am going in for my second on December 21st--I want tightened before Christmas.

You will be amazed at how little you will do with!!! :hungry:

I don't have restriction so I can eat a large quantity of food; however, I restrict my calories to 1500 a day and I eat it over 5-6 small meals. And, I exercise A LOT! CRAZY A LOT!

So, for tonights dinner I had a healthy choice cafe steamer meal - (Chicken with Roasted red pepper alfredo, brocoli and noodles) with some extra brocolli and a 1/2 cup peaches with a couple of wheat crackers.

This is a typical meal for me. I also love the South Beach Meal Replacement bars in choc. Peanut Butter. They pack a lot of Protein and Vitamins. They are great to eat right before a workout and give lots of energy.

My meals are usually at least a half cup, more likely a full cup, with a total of around 1200 cal a day. I pack my Breakfast and lunch for work and the containers provide the measurement, then I use my sandwich plate as a guide when eating the evening meal. I don't know how anyone could survive on 2oz per meal and be happy on that - that is NOT what I signed up for!

You don't mention having done a pre-op diet and, at 97kg, chances are the doc didn't require you to do one. That means that in this post-op period, you are still in the first weeks of restricted eating, when weight loss is fastest. While some of the loss is actual fat, a lot of what you are losing is just Fluid and digested food from your intestines that isn't being replaced, so the numbers on the scale are quite dramatic. That will settle down in the next week or so, and your losses are likely to slow down. Don't be surprised if you stall or even gain a kilo or so when you go back onto mushies. It it is just your body balancing itself out and, if you stick to the rules, your losses will continue at the more normal slower rate (1/2 - 1kg per week).

I'm 10 months out and have lost about 70 lbs. I eat 3/4 to 1 cup of food 3 times a day usually. Sometimes I have a Protein Shake for breakfast for my meal. I also drink 1 bottle of Isopure a day in addition to my Water. I don't have tight restriction, but this works for me. I tried the 2 oz meals and I was very hungry.

I had my surgery 25th of July.

So far I have no fill in my band and I eat about 1 to 1 1/2 cups of food three times a day. I usually don't snack between meals. I feel my limit and know when to stop.

The band feels tighter in the second half of my menstrual cycle. First half of my cycle is a little harder and I am hungry from time to time. It gets harder and I am thinking about getting a fill, but since I am losing weight...and, well, I still enjoy eating.

I don't count calories, but I am careful of what I put in my mouth. I avoid highly processed and "diet food" and stay with the "real stuff", but eat much less of it. I buy more organic.

I exercise every other day and love it.

For me, it depends on the meal. Breakfast, I usually eat about 1/4 cup of weight wise oatmeal, or 1/2 container of low sugar, no sugar added yogurt.

lunch, is about 1/2 cup of something, today I had fish Stew I made, and could only eat 1/2 of my containter - my container held about 1 cup, so I guess I ate about 1/2 cup.

dinner - usually more like 1 cup of food. I eat 2 oz of meat, and a few veggies. Sometimes I eat 3 oz of Protein, just depends how my band is acting at that point.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
