Any April 2021 bypassers?

Recommended Posts

Hi guys! Well it's been quite a journey through this but I've got my date.... April 28th I'm so excited and really nervous at the same time. I'm a little nervous about the pain. I'm a pretty tough gal but for some reason I'm nervous. Of course beauty is pain for us ladies lol. Any advice on what the hospital stay is like and coming home?? I've made so many lists of what to take to the hospital and prepare for coming home. My Amazon cart is ridiculously full , but I'm extremely hopeful and positive. And so grateful for this it's like I'm getting a second chance or a do over. I really feel this is going to be the best thing I could ever do for myself. So any advice would awesome!!

I'm scheduled for bypass on 4/13. Started the liquid diet today.

This is a revision for me. Got the band in 2009, and did really well, but it slipped about 5 years ago and had to be removed. Of course, the weight is all coming back. Was hoping for the sleeve, but I have a hernia, so my surgeon says bypass is the way to go. So, this is what I need to do to be healthy.

Good luck to everyone!

Is anyone close to there surgery date experiencing any anxiety or second thoughts on getting the procedure?

Every 5 minutes. But I remind myself why I started this in the first place.

I simply can’t get my health right on my own. I know what I need to do, I do it. But it just doesn’t damn work!

I look at my husband & kids and want to spend more time with them doing stuff we enjoy & I can do it at this weight & health state.

Then we have an argument at dinner and I rethink it all.

But it’s.. them and (most importantly) ME, are totally worth this weird trip I’m taking is all on. Arguments and all, I WANT to spend more time with them!

Playing the long game.

I completely agree! I’ve also read that many people go thru remorse after surgery ..So I’m trying to stay very positive here...i found out that I had several comorbidities prior to my approval for surgery so that keeps me grounded. I’m doing this for me and my health. It’s just very easy to second guess yourself as the surgery date gets closer!

I am more concerned about getting a bowel obstruction or not recognizing I need to be treated at the ER afterwards.

I expected to start to feel nervous in the weeks leading up to my April 20 surgery but I don’t. What I’m actually feeling is sadness... sadness about the loss of my old lifestyle. I am quite the foodie and truly enjoy eating, I am not a stress eater.
But I know that in the years to come I will still be able to eat some/many of the delicious things I’ve eaten in the past, just much smaller portions. Reminding myself of that is helping me get through.

Anyone else feeling this way? (I’ve been reading about “food funerals“ but it’s just not for me.)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
